Josie Moraine, the daughter of a brothel prostitute, is caught between the dream of an elite college and a clandestine underworld in New Orleans. It is a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.

EadieB This is a character driven book and I especially liked Josie's character. Her mother was a prostitute but she was not going in that direction. The plot was one that led me to read the book to the sad ending. I look forward to reading more from this author as I really liked this book. If you like heartfelt books then you will love this book. 6mo

Book 13 complete!

This book was great. Super atmospheric. Will definitely be reading more from Ruta Sepetys.

Fun fact: the author and I grew up in the same state of the U.S.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Salt to the Sea was a powerful book. It takes place at the end of WWII, written in super short chapters, only a few pages each, with alternating first person POVs, which made it easy to fly through. Each character had their own story, all meeting up on the Wilhelm Gustloff. One thing though, the romance felt very rushed. Despite that, this book (the ending especially) was deep and terrifyingly detailed, but still amazing and memorable.
