After ch 2, I skimmed the rest. It felt like a TedTalk expanded into a book but without enough. Too many anecdotes & personal stories, too many generalities, too little science or actual tools. I‘m not even clear on her definition of shame as she seems to lump a lot of things into shame. And I will honestly forget most of what I did read. Sadly, this is a pan & an #unpopularopinion

Clwojick Ooo great match! 23h
Roary47 I‘m sorry you didn‘t care for it, but glad you were able to get it off your list. 22h
JuniperWilde I wasn‘t a fan either. I appreciate BB‘s contribution but don‘t get the hype. 22h

wanderinglynn @JuniperWilde I‘m glad I‘m not the only one. It has a ridiculously high rating on Goodreads and I just didn‘t get the hype. 18h
Chrissyreadit I haven‘t read this- and I think BB is ok but I also have not understood the hype (based on a different book I read) 17h
wanderinglynn @Chrissyreadit I can send this to you if you want to check it out. Honestly, I think The Artist Way, which I just started, is much more helpful & provides actual tools to “dare greatly”, be vulnerable, & combat shame—Julia Cameron just doesn‘t use those terms. 17h
Chrissyreadit @wanderinglynn I have it on kindle- for years- I also have The Artists Way- I thought I‘d read it with my teens in their High School years, but we never got to it. I‘m much more likely to pick The Artists Way up. But thanks for offering 😘 16h
TheAromaofBooks At least it is off the shelf!!! 16h

Finished this one on Saturday, during #JoyousJanuary

I‘m using this one for #Sapphic book for #pop22

I‘ve had this one on my TBR for a while and am glad I finally got to it. It‘s a F/F historical romance about women in science. Basically, men suck 🤣

RaeLovesToRead Looks cute! I'm thinking of using Carol or a Sarah Waters for this prompt. Or One Last Stop (but that works for book set on a train..) 1d
JamieArc I read this one earlier this month. It was a fun read, and loved the smart women. 1d
Laughterhp @RaeLovesToRead I was going to use One Last Stop but I bailed on it 😬😬 1d

RaeLovesToRead Aww no! I've heard such good things! 😬 1d
Laughterhp @RaeLovesToRead I think it might be an #unpopularopinion I was just bored 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1d

#unpopularopinion TW:Domestic violence. It was a fast paced story & I can understand a lot of its appeal , though I feel it was very much a bucket of emotional manipulation. In defense, if someone recognizes they are in a domestic violence situation & this story helps them to reach out to others for help , that‘s a positive.

Aims42 Your review is spot on 👍 I bailed on it, so gold star to you for finishing 🌟 I hope your next read is better!! 3d
Leftcoastzen @Aims42 thanks , I like your take on it as well. 3d

I love a good witch goddess story just as much as the next reader, but this one just left me flat. #Unpopularopinion I know. But I didn‘t like Circe, thought the story only plodded along, and struggled to finish this one. Made me sad, b/c I loved The Song of Achilles with my whole heart.

Emily92Bibliophile Have you read this one yet? A good Witch story 3d
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Emily92Bibliophile I have heard good things and bought it on ebook sale recently! Thanks. 💕 3d
Ruthiella I totally agree with you! I loved The Song of Achilles but though Circe was boring. Oh well. 3d

Cinfhen It took me awhile to get into this book and in the end I liked it / but not nearly as much as Song of Achilles 3d
Cinfhen @Emily92Bibliophile your book sounds GREAT!! And I see I‘ve already stacked it 🤩 3d
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Yes, same. Although I never really loved it. @Ruthiella Yaass. Glad to know I‘m not alone. 3d
4thhouseontheleft I loved this one, but read it before Song if Achilles. I wonder if I would have felt differently if I read SoA first. 3d
Emily92Bibliophile @Barbara @Cinfhen it‘s wonderful! There is not much Norse Mythology that is told from the female perspective and this one is 👍🏻 I loved Cerci but I understand how some readers don‘t like it. 🤷‍♀️Not a witch but Ariadne is superb. (edited) 3d
Emily92Bibliophile @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen other Greek retellings that are superb: The Silence of the Girls, Till we Have Faces, A Thousand Ships, and Cassandra Speaks ( semi retelling) 3d
Cinfhen I read Ariadne, A Thousand Ships & Silence of the Girls & LOVED them all @Emily92Bibliophile I‘ll have to look for the other two you mentioned. I‘m also hoping to read 3d
Cinfhen And I just read and loved this one but it‘s very loosely based on Greek mythology 3d
Emily92Bibliophile @Cinfhen those are so good! I‘m glad you read them! I have Daughters of Sparta and the Women of Troy as my next reads 💙 3d

#UnpopularOpinion Ugh. My friend let me borrow her copy because she loved this book (yes, the same friend from a few posts prior). I‘ve seen a lot of positive reviews on it, but I can‘t 😑 I‘m halfway through and I‘ve groaned and rolled my eyes more times than I care to admit. If it weren‘t for my friend I would‘ve bailed on this by page 50, but I‘m going to finish it. At least it‘s a fast read 🙄

TheLudicReader I do not understand all the positive reviews CH receives. At all 4d
Aims42 @TheLudicReader This was my first book by her, and yeahhhhh don‘t think I‘ll waste my time on her others. Definitely glad I didn‘t buy this!!! 4d

Bailedbailed

I clearly have an #unpopularopinion here, but after struggling through more than 100 pages, growing more irritated by the minute, and checked out some of the low reviews from Goodreads, so I know I‘m not alone, just in the minority. I found all of the characters annoying and struggled with the pacing. Crouch failed to give me a reason to care about the MC or the plot, so I‘m cutting my losses.

DGRachel I feel guilty because this is a book club book, and if my library had the audiobook available, I‘d probably switch just to finish, but there‘s a 3 week hold time and the book has to be mailed to the next person in a week and I‘m just not willing to throw away a Libro credit for a book I already dislike. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5d
MicrobeMom I was not a huge fan either. I stuck with because I did the audio version 5d
DuckOfDoom I didn't like it either :/ 4d
DGRachel @MicrobeMom @DuckOfDoom It‘s so nice to know I‘m not the only one! 😉 4d

Is #SmuttyThrillers a thing???!!? Im not sure how to review this book. #UnpopularOpinion
Twisted, tawdry & diabolical ~ it just didn‘t work for me.

Laughterhp I‘ve not read this one, but I feel like people are obsessed with this one. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a smutty thriller lol. 6d
Kshakal One of my book clubs picked this one for February… I am so excited to read it! 6d
TrishB It shall remain on the kindle a bit longer! 6d

Cinfhen I think I‘ve just read to many TWISTED thrillers to really get excited by them any longer @TrishB @Kshakal @Laughterhp I just don‘t enjoy the SHOCK element - it makes my eyes roll 🙄 and I just felt like the words fuck, cock, wet, tongue were a little excessive 😉 6d
TrishB Ha ha! I‘ll remember that for when I need the smutty thriller! 6d
Laughterhp Oh, I agree. I‘m pretty over thrillers at this point. And yeah, that seems like pretty vulgar language for a thriller. 6d
BarbaraBB Ha ha 😀 6d
squirrelbrain Eewww at the nasty, bad words! 6d
Kshakal @Cinfhen well those words are going to raise some eyebrows at my book club!! Lol! 6d
BookBosomed1 This is definitely erotica thriller. I grow tired of the woman vs woman bc of a man trope in thrillers. 6d
Cinfhen Hahaha @Kshakal I‘d like to be a fly on the wall for your bookclub discussion ♥️agreed @BookBosomed1 it‘s disappointing to see women “fighting” over a man but apparently Jeremy has a great skill set 😆Those words don‘t necessarily bother me @squirrelbrain @Laughterhp @BarbaraBB @TrishB I just wasn‘t expecting that kind of language in my thriller 6d
Cinfhen And I have to remember that term erotica thriller @BookBosomed1 much classier sounding 😄❣️ 6d
Cortg I‘ve never read Colleen Hoover. I‘m always thinking I want to read the next big psychological thriller but I‘m always disappointed when I finish. I‘m trying not to gravitate towards them because they‘re just not my genre. 🤔 6d
Cinfhen So this was my second or third book by CoHo @Cortg and I‘m 💯 sure she‘s not the author for me!!!! 6d
britt_brooke @Cinfhen Boooo! This one was not my fave, but I do like Coleen Hoover. Verity is a vast departure from her norm. She doesn‘t usually do thrillers, but mostly dramatic romance-y stuff. Btw, I *just* finished her new one so expect a tag like tomorrow. 😂😂 5d
Cinfhen I know she‘s beloved by many but romance-y drama is a hard sell for me @britt_brooke but I‘m happy you enjoy her books!! That‘s the beauty of readers and books, there‘s something for everyone 😁 5d
britt_brooke @Cinfhen For sure! 5d

Four Winds | Kristin Hannah
post image

Geez, this book is GRIM!!!! I was having #FoMo but now I know Kristen Hannah isn‘t the author for me.
I don‘t dislike this book as much as The Great Alone but I feel like the author is intentionally manipulating me.
I get the Dust Bowl was a terrible tragic time in US History and I actually appreciate the insight and descriptions Hannah provides but there‘s zero redemption. And I still have another 4 hours.

Caroline2 Yeah I‘m not keen on Kristin Hannah either. Bit too melodramatic. 1w
Cinfhen Yessss, that‘s exactly it @Caroline2 1w
BookLineNSinker Thank you for saying that... I've been wanting to say it myself! @Caroline2 I just didn't love it as much as everyone the did, just wasn't for me. 1w

Cinfhen I often find it‘s hard to admit to not liking a book that everyone else seems to love @BudgetingBookwormBabe I also feel like it will seem I‘m judging others taste, when it simply isn‘t true. I can appreciate how others might LOVE this book & author. 1w
BkClubCare I swear I am allergic to KH‘s writing. I won‘t read her anymore. The Nightingale sealed that for me (and I see that gave it 3 stars 🤣 I must‘ve been feeling generous.) 1w
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I liked her early books, and they've gotten not as good for me too, and yes grim is the word. 1w
Cinfhen I actually liked The Nightingale but again, I felt manipulated but I could not stand TGA @BkClubCare @Crazeedi I‘m happy this one is a #BorrowNotBuy 1w
PatriciaU I feel the same way about this author. Not for me… 1w
Cinfhen Woohoo 🙌🏻 I love when others validate my feelings xx Thanks @PatriciaU 1w
janeycanuck I hated The Great Alone and have been hesitant to pick anything else up by Hannah (though I have the Nightingale somewhere…) but have also been enticed by the buzz on this one. I think you‘ve confirmed for me that I should steer clear. 1w
BarbaraBB I just read my first book by her and thought it way too chick-lit #booksnob 1w
BookBosomed1 Im listening to this book; I agree it is grim. I‘d appreciate some levity here & there. The book seems like a good example for an overuse of pathos. 1w
Cinfhen Oh my!!! I‘m in such GREAT company/ thanks for letting me know I‘m not alone in the #UnPopularOpinion corner @BookBosomed1 @BarbaraBB @janeycanuck 1w
Lcsmcat @Crazeedi I agree that she‘s gotten much more emotionally manipulative in her later books. I hate when authors do that. 1w
LeahBergen I‘ve always sensed she‘s not for me, either! 😬 1w
Megabooks I‘m not a fan of hers. 🤷🏻‍♀️ good luck finishing! 1w
LeahBergen @janeycanuck Right? 😆 1w
Centique I‘ve come to that conclusion too after reading The Nightingale! Good writing but one was enough for me. A bit too long and bleak without something really sharp or insightful to make it worthwhile. 1w
Cinfhen EXACTLY @Centique it‘s like how much can we torture the reader with??? 1w

Cathythoughts I remember loving this book. ..... It‘s a great day , said Lee Melon.. (edited) 1w
MaleficentBookDragon @Cathythoughts I wanted to like it, but I just didn‘t. I did enjoy Bronson Pinchot‘s narration. It was the only reason I stuck it out to the end. 1w
