Earlene I liked this version better than some of the rest it still doesn‘t cut it. I grew up and still live in the province next to Prince Edward I had always pictured Avonlea and the characters dressing and living like the old family farm photos in our albums. Kevin Sullivan elevated their clothes and homes past what I feel it should be. The story was held it is the look I have trouble with. 24h
jillrhudy Always meant to buy these and watch with my youngest daughter and never did. My older daughters saw them in the 90s. 23h
Reagan-reads Well I cried reading that article and now plan to reread the books and watch the miniseries. I won‘t watch the new one because I just can‘t understand why someone would mess with perfection 🤷🏼‍♀️ 23h

MoonWitch94 I have always loved these novels & these movies have such a special place in my heart. I loved Avonlea, and as a child I was able to go to PEI for the day once, and although it rained & stormed, I loved it. 23h
Jas16 Loved this article. Thanks for sharing. 23h
LibrarianRyan Thanks for sharing. I grew up with the CBC movies and the disney channel spinoff Avonlea. I loved them all. My childhood love even looked like Gilbert. I could still sit and watch this at any time. Even though movie 3 is the worst of the bunch.

I know that amoung readers, I am the #unpopularopinion but I liked Netflix's Anne with an E. I still haven't' see the last season, but winter is coming. I liked the changes, but still love original.

LibrarianRyan @ljuliel thoughts? 22h
ljuliel Great article, Ryan.I‘m totally clueless on any of the tv shows or movies, as I‘ve never watched one. This was a good book / series to bring up with the Classics floating through my head today. We could maybe put this , Little House on the Prairie and Cranford sort of in the same category. Books that any age could enjoy, lessons for life learned along the way , and a place and time long forgotten ( unless we read the books).Thank you 😊 21h
WanderingBookaneer @LibrarianRyan : This will forever be my favorite adaptation because, like you, it‘s what I grew up on. I watched the first season of the new series expecting to hate it and found that I didn‘t. However, given the choice to rewatch, my Anne will forever be Megan Follows (even if the third movie has been conveniently erased from my memory. 20h

Waited for a long time to read this book, was really looking forward to it and then it fell flat! 😢

OriginalCyn620 I‘ve never read it but it does sound good! Of course, that doesn‘t mean it actually is! 4d
Andrew65 @OriginalCyn620 Loads of people do like it it just didn‘t work for me. 4.04 rating on Goodreads but only a rating of 2 for me. 4d
EadieB @Andrew65 I remember when we read Gorky Park. It was a big disappointment! 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes very disappointing unfortunately. 3d

OriginalCyn620 No! I loved this one! 😂 4d
Crimson613 Maybe these aren't your type of books? 😆 I remember you also didn't like Gone Girl? (Or was it just the MC you didn't like?) 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Crimson613 it‘s the mc I think!! 4d

Readswithcoffee I really, really disliked this book. I finished it, but only gave it one star ⭐️ 4d
REPollock I hated this book. One where I literally wished for the hours of my life back I spent reading it. 4d
mydearwatson I liked it, and I love psychological thrillers, but I‘m a little tired of MCs that are constantly drinking. I don‘t care that they drink; it‘s just an overdone thing. 4d
CaitlinR Her 2nd is even more disappointing. 3d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Readswithcoffee I‘m not sure I would give it that!! Lol 3d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @REPollock me too!!!!! Omg!!! 3d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @mydearwatson I agree! I have The Woman in the Window and I‘ve heard it‘s similar... 3d
Hooked_on_books I love this type of book usually but found this one way overhyped. I wasn‘t impressed. I feel the same way about Riley Sager. 3d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CaitlinR was that Into The Water with 75 characters?! 😫 3d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Hooked_on_books I‘ve only read Final Girls, but I have his others... 3d
ephemeralwaltz Uurgh i hated it 😂😂 3d
Susanita Yeah I bailed on this one pretty early. She seemed like a hot mess. 3d
ferskner YES! I don't get the love for this at all. 2d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @ferskner me either!!! She WAS a train wreck!!! 2d

Lily and the Octopus | Steven Rowley

Mehso-so

This is an #unpopularopinion for sure but this tale of a man‘s love for his aging pooch and his fight against the octopus of a tumor on her head didn‘t do it for me. Stylistic choices were annoying and the magical realism piece about 2/3 in made me almost give up in frustration. Even so, as a dog mama, I cried. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2019/10/review-lily-and-octopus-by-steven-rowle...

Prairiegirl_reading As a dog mama I‘m never reading this one! Or any book where the dog might die. I would never recover! 4d
Jee_HookedOnBookz I have yet to read this. You're not a fan of magical realism? 4d
BookNAround @Jee_HookedOnBookz I‘m not a fan of magical realism nor of anthropomorphism so this wasn‘t going to be awesome for me for multiple reasons (not that I knew ahead of time since I had an ARC of the book). 4d
BookNAround @Prairiegirl_reading I do struggle with dog dying books, which means no matter how cute the cover, I almost never pick up a book with a dog on the cover. Cover dogs almost never survive through the end of the book. 4d
Prairiegirl_reading @BookNAround it was rare before I was a dog mama and now? Forget it! I‘m such a big baby!! 4d

An #UnpopularOpinion, but this was a book for the #ThoughtYouWouldLikeButDidnt category. I read it 7 years ago, and I can barely remember the story, but my Goodreads review says “Mawkish and sentimental. Pretentious lead characters, under-developed support cast.”

#GratefulReads @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Lucy_Anywhere I've never read any of John Green for this reason, although I love his Crash Course videos on Youtube! 4d
OriginalCyn620 Aww, I loved this one! I can see your point, though. 4d
Scochrane26 I love John Green. This one seems to be most people‘s favorite, but I‘ve had several teens who liked Paper Towns best. And I like a couple of his others better. But, some of his early characters are similar, so you prob wouldn‘t like any. Turtles all the Way Down is different than his others. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I dint care for any of his books!!! 4d

#gratefulreads that you #thoughtyouwouldlikebutdidnt

With respect to all you lovely lot that adore this book.... I detested it with a passion. Not helped by a terrible audio book narrator.... Managed about 80% then couldn't take any more lol. I won't tell you what I renamed it 😁😁 #notforme #unpopularopinion

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

Hooked_on_books I didn‘t like it either. But you made it much further than me—I bailed after a few chapters. 4d
julesG I read the whole trilogy just because I was hoping it would get better. It didn't. 4d
Lucy_Anywhere I read this years ago and remember being a bit disappointed... she was a bit wet, drank tea and took a lot of baths as I remember 4d

OriginalCyn620 Ha! I think I can fill in that blank! 😂 sorry you didn‘t like it though 4d
Balibee146 @Hooked_on_books I don't know why I wasted so many hours struggling through it! @julesG 😱😱😱 4d
Balibee146 @Lucy_Anywhere lol yup that just about sums it up.... Oh and rowed a lot and dithered even more 🙄🙄🙄 4d
Balibee146 @OriginalCyn620 the final word in my version still begins with w and ends in s........ 4d
PlayingBonny Haha, I literally threw that one at the wall. There‘s a dent. No disrespect to those who enjoyed it; it was a ‘straw that broke the camel‘s back‘ situation as far as my paranormal romance reading went. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m iffy about starting this one based on all of the mixed reviews!! 4d
Balibee146 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks whatever you decide avoid the audio book at all costs lol 💩💩💩 3d

*Heavy sigh* I think I feel a little disappointed, a little ripped off.

There were some great characters here, but those great characters were pushed aside in favor of two relatively dull characters. Characters I‘ve read before over and over again. For a story that opens with such promise, I‘m disappointed with the delivery. I wish the story had focused more on Tané & Nayimathun & the land of Seiiki. Or even The Priory!

??

hermyknee The Priory is a great setting filled with intriguing characters. The book is called The Priory of the Orange Tree after all—but an over abundance of time is spent setting up and developing characters in Inys leaving the great characters and storylines in the south and the east underdeveloped. For its length, the book had a hard time focusing. By the time epilogues for each character/storyline rolled around, I skipped all but one. 😕 (edited) 1w
Soubhiville I agree. I was pretty disappointed in this book. 1w
hermyknee @Soubhiville I‘m glad I‘m not the only one - I feel like ours is a fairly #unpopularopinion 1w
