My bed is never too messy for #Ozzie , lol #catsoflitsy you can see his 6th toe here also 😻😻😻

Mimi28 #unpopularopinion here, but I was kind of turned off to this book when someone committed suicide on the 3rd page. It seems like a page turner, and very interesting, just the time for me to read it at this time in my life. I‘m sticking to graphic novels and fantasies, lol. Sorry 😞😞 1d

Bailedbailed

This might be an #unpopularopinion but I DNF‘d The Priory of the Orange Tree. I got 40% of the way through the 900+ page book and still had no idea what the titular organization even was. Plus I really didn‘t have much connection to the main characters. Life is too short to stick with a book I don‘t enjoy, so I bailed.

Bookwormjillk I‘m about to bail on this too 1d
BridgetteM Glad I‘m not the only one who struggled with this one, @Bookwormjillk. I really wanted to like it, too. 1d
Maude I bailed too, I was having a hard time making myself even pick it up and read it, I don't know exactly why 🤔 1d
BridgetteM @Maude Me too! I knew it was time to qui when I found myself making excuses not to read it. 1d

The characters were not endearing and other than they were going through a hard time we not relatable. There was not a lot of environmental descriptions and far to much pity partying.

This might be an #unpopularopinion, but I thought this book was garbage! You can tell it was written for the main purpose of adapting it into a movie. Despite what he says in the acknowledgments, the author clearly has zero real knowledge of therapy.

My book club has been picking some real crap lately. 😡 But at least the book was over quickly.

Ali Smith had her finger on the pulse in one of the first Brexit novels 😬 #GroundsForDivorce #RedRoseSeptember @Cinfhen @arlenefinnigan

arlenefinnigan I liked this, but I find Ali Smith slightly hard workm 3d
Cinfhen I agree @arlenefinnigan I can‘t connect with her books. I just don‘t enjoy reading them #UnpopularOpinion 2d
Moray_Reads She's probably my favourite living author but definitely not for everyone. That cover though! 😍 @cinfhen @arlenefinnigan 2d
Cinfhen Yes!!!! Her cover designs are ALWAYS brilliant ❤️ 2d

Mehso-so

⭐️⭐️💫 #UnpopularOpinion: This was one of the most depressing books ever and I‘m so relieved to be done with it. I felt like I was on a journey with two families and only got the worst events of their lives. I‘m okay with sadness and all of that but dang...give me a little light to go along with it. I get the whole forgiveness and redemption angle but tbh, this just didn‘t work for me.

BookNAround I didn‘t love it either. 4d
LeahBergen I wanna kiss that BFG on the lips. 4d
LiteraryinLititz Good to hear! I‘d mostly heard great things so it‘s nice to also know some of the negatives. Also, that picture is ADORABLE. 4d

Jensol77 I loved it. It was sad but real. 4d
JamieArc I felt the same way as you. Glad I‘m not the only one. 4d
Melissa_J OMG what a cute picture! I have this book on my TBR pile and I‘m always afraid of reading books everyone seems to love. I‘ll temper my expectations going in now. 4d
Ruthiella Love the picture!❤️🐱❤️🐱 4d
BarbaraBB Oh man, I just bought this one. Forgiveness and redemption? Meh... 4d
CarolynM I'm with you, I can't stand books that are unrelieved misery, I don't even like unrelieved seriousness. I do love the cat picture, though😻 4d
Megabooks I‘m reading this now! I‘m loving it, but I can definitely tell it‘s not upbeat. 4d
LauraBeth @BookNAround I‘m so glad to see it wasn‘t just me! 4d
LauraBeth @LeahBergen 😹well since he‘s basically a Ragdoll in Tabby form, he would most definitely let you do that! 😻 4d
LauraBeth @LiteraryinLititz I do think it‘s a good book and I can see why it‘s appealing to a lot of readers, it just wasn‘t the right book for me at the right time. The BFG cat says thank you 😻 4d
LauraBeth @Jensol77 it was very real! Maybe too real bc my parents could have been stand-ins for Peter‘s parents. Maybe bc it did resonate so much realness to me and bc I could identify with the characters, I wanted to also see the joyous parts to help temper the sadness. 4d
LauraBeth @JamieArc I‘m glad to see I wasn‘t alone in my thoughts on this one! 4d
LauraBeth @Melissa_J thanks 😻 I think the comparisons of this author with Celeste Ng are spot on and if you enjoyed Ng‘s books, you‘ll definitely enjoy this one! It‘s definitely character-driven. 4d
LauraBeth Thanks @Ruthiella 😽 4d
LauraBeth @BarbaraBB I felt like she was trying to write the great Catholic novel. So yeah - meh. 4d
LauraBeth Thanks @CarolynM 😻 I never realized about myself that I didn‘t like unrelieved misery until I read this. So now I know! 4d
LauraBeth @megabooks I hope you like it! It definitely wasn‘t an upbeat read for me! But before this, I had read On Earth We‘re Completely Gorgeous and that definitely wasn‘t upbeat either. But I LOVED that book! Maybe bc I could see joy in his writing? I think Keane is a great writer but a very straightforward one. 4d
Megabooks @LauraBeth Honestly, I didn‘t want to put it down to do my morning chores. I finally did at 5 and I‘m sitting down again with it now!! I want to read Ocean‘s book as well. 4d
kspenmoll This is my bookclub read this month. Thanks for your honest opinion. Last month‘s pick I really did not enjoy- similar unpopular opinion for Elizabeth‘s Gilbert‘s 4d
LauraBeth @kspenmoll I do think this is a really good book for book clubs to discuss! 4d
Dragon 😻 4d
valeriegeary That cat face though.... 😆 3d
LauraBeth @valeriegeary well he‘s no Charlie Waffles but he‘s cute enough ☺️ 3d
AlaMich We haven‘t seen much of Grey Cat for awhile...🙀 3d
LauraBeth @alamich 😹 she‘s sitting right next to me now - she hasn‘t gone anywhere! 3d

Pickpick

Hard to rate - I expected to love this but it's a bit more complicated. It is really sticking in my head and I just want to discuss/hear what other people thought so that's probably a win. I think the story that really worked for me is most reader's least favorite so that's an interesting #unpopularopinion.

j9brown Which one is that? I wouldn't call any of them a "favorite" myself, but I think the one where the women were fading into invisibility, and the eating disorder one worked the most for me. And the one with the apocalypse quietly happening in the background was the only one that actually felt like a whole story. I feel like something might have gone over my head with some of the others! ? 6d
WhatWouldJaneDo @j9brown I liked the fading women one, but I really got into the Law and Order one. It was weird and yes, overlong, but I thought that worked for the theme and I was really into the eldritch horror thing. 6d
j9brown @WhatWouldJaneDo Oh yeah! Too long for sure, but there were some really cool and creepy and even funny bits in there! 6d
WhatWouldJaneDo @j9brown I hi-lited so much of it! But then I listened to the Literary Disco ep about it and they seemed to think it should have been cut from the book lol. I skimmed some reviews and it seems like if it gets mentioned it's as a least favorite. 6d
j9brown @WhatWouldJaneDo It's an odd fit I guess but I thought it broke up the book in an interesting way, like a weird interlude. 🤷‍♀️ I can see why some people weren't into it, though, it was an unexpectedly strange sort of format for a short story! 6d

#unpopularopinion Bailing at 90%. 90% y‘all!!!

This was like a crystal ball - lots of good thoughts spinning around each other, with momentary diamonds in the rough, but never dancing together long enough to hook you into the magic. A classic case of it can‘t possibly be you, it must be me, but I‘m just not that into you, Stepsister!

LibrarianRyan I agree with you. It took the ending to me me like this book. And it wasn‘t the ending it was the almost ending. If I wasn‘t listening while on a long car trip I never would have finished it. 1w
