This tale is glitteringly exquisite. The language is rare and sparkling, full of poetry-- like reading a memory I already possess -- feeling sounds, tastes, and textures with each word, at once disorienting and brutally familiar. Alice is fearsome, all worldly charm, and cigarettes. She is beautiful metaphor for the uncanniness of teenage-hood. This tale will pull you in, eat you up - but who knows if you'll make it out again.

Took a brief break from all the YA to read this wonderful piece about the nature of art, where it comes from, where it goes, and who really owns it. Loved the concept and the craft here. Rich storytelling.

Book two is more of the cold burn as the world shatters like glass after the events of book one. Cold enough to take your breath away.

Laia! Run! Well, that's what you'll be doing through this jam packed dystopia. Fantasy with flecks of Ancient Rome. Love the slow burn.

Ms. Carriger's has done it again with a diverting romp through the Victorian empire. Prudence and the rest of the crew aboard the spotted custard are off to Egypt, ostensibly to help some "old" favorites. Tidbits abound regarding familiar characters and things are tied up as neatly as Biffy's cravat.

A Canterbury Tales for children, with a Holy Dog, Farting dragons, and a diverse cast of characters to spread the tale telling on a dark night. Full of Medieval Lyricism and illuminated in a whimsical style. This medievalist can find no fault and a great deal of heartwarming merit in this Tale.

annahenke I was reading about this the other day in PW. Might have to pick it up! It's been a while since I've read a m.g. Book. 8y

What if Art was magic? Using the principles of sacred geometry and giving the world another hero with more heart than brawn, DiMartino has created another fun and masterful world in this wonderful story for middle grade readers. Fans of Avatar the Last Airbender will not be surprised by the level of craft exhibited in DiMartino's first novel. Explore a world like Renaissance Italy with Giacomo, his Genius Spirit and a cast of talented companions
