Imprudence | Gail Carriger
From New York Times bestselling author Gail Carriger comes the delightful sequel to Prudence. Rue and the crew of the Spotted Custard return from India with revelations that shake the foundations of England's scientific community. Queen Victoria is not amused, the vampires are tetchy, and something is wrong with the local werewolf pack. To top it all off, Rue's best friend Primrose keeps getting engaged to the most unacceptable military types. Rue has family problems as well. Her vampire father is angry, her werewolf father is crazy, and her obstreperous mother is both. Worst of all, Rue's beginning to suspect what they really are... is frightened.

My eleventy-first book of the year! 🎉 Audio

This was interesting as it seemed to be two distinct novels in one. The first one wrapped up at the 7 hour mark and flowed nicely into the second plot to finish out the last 5 hours of book.

Plot A was getting Rue's parents to Egypt as was discussed at the end of the Parosol books.

Plot B was a slow speed dirigible race to Lake Victoria while being perused by unknown mauraders.

You're part of The Spotted Custard Crew. Which job would you want? Or would best suit your personality? I'd be Primrose - pouring tea while wearing a fabulous outfit. That and I dearly love a list.

Crinoline_Laphroaig And one other thing - I really how Rue tells Quesnel what she wants in their relationship. Romance with Communication is sexy. 3y
catsuit_mango I'd probably be Prim too but not so interested in the outfits. Or Footnotes ;) 3y

I liked this book much better than the first one, Rue is much less obnoxious and her friends really start to develop as characters. The queen is rather upset with Rue for taking liberties and stripes her of royal patronage and protection. Her parents move to Egypt to try to give her father a kind end, and her other father is truthful. Rue must learn to negotiate her feelings and expectations while exploring barely charted territory. 3.5/5 stars

3.5/5⭐ Fun and adventurous, and I like many of the side characters. But Rue feels more like a convenient focus that keeps the thin story together rather than a dimensional person in her own right; I don't connect to her. A lot of the shenanigans and dynamics feel very reminiscent of the Finishing School series. The plot is basically just the ship floating into danger and *shockingly* being attacked, over and over again.

On retreading this story feels incomplete, but I blame my familiarity with the narrative arc of the series rather than the book as written. The queer themes of this series makes it particularly charming for me.

I was previously trying to get some #audiocleaning done, but I'm having very little luck in the audiobook department lately. So, now I'm sitting down for a bit to enjoy some reading before I have to cook supper. #TheCustardProtocol #Book2

So good, the new cast of characters has really grown on me and gelled together into a great crew, and this installment has some great cameos of characters from the previous series which I fully enjoyed seeing in passing again. Overall.... new adventures, resolution to some old storylines, and some romance is in the air, literally and figuratively.

It's been a delight to get back in this world! I've been working my way through 2018 Banned Books List. Books like 13 Reasons Why have left me in dire need of a happy read. Imprudence was as refreshing as my Lemon Basil Gin and Tonic on this dreadfully hot day.🍋☂️😽

It was really sad to see Conall succumbing to the Alpha‘s curse at the start of the book, but rest assured that it‘s still a fun and happy book. I loved the ending!

The second book in the 'Custard Protocol', in which our dear heroine, daughter of the previous series main characters, seems to grow up. A touch more romance but still no details, this is a Victorian era book after all. Carriger has made me fall in love with steampunk paranormal alternate history! 😍 Still a light fun paranormal read.

GypsyKat I still need to read the first series, it‘s been on my TBR list forever! 6y

I was listening to this and heard the word "soulless" and something just clicked in my brain - it didn't occur to me until that moment that the Parasol Protectorate is essentially an introduction to this series. It's driving me crazy that I didn't read that one first. Now I have to make it a priority to read that series before the next Custard Protocol book ("Competence", featuring Primrose) is released in July! #accidentallyunchronological

Realised tonight why I‘ve been putting off reading this: I love Conall Maccon too much. But it‘s ok (I think, I hope) the worst is past and it should be ok. You can never tell with Gail Carriger though, she‘s not afraid to do the unthinkable.

Another fantastic, wonderful fun ride by Gail Carriger. Absolutely love her many characters and delightful, rollicking adventures. Every time I read one of her books, I want to go back and reread them all. Her witticisms and wonderful phrasing make these tapes even more enjoyable! Can't recommend these books enough!

Finally reunited with my copy of this book! Rue and crew continue their adventures abroad, discovering the British Empire is quite ignorant in regard to international supernaturals. All of these characters are so fun! I want to have a Spoo of my own. And a dirigible. It's also delightful to reencounter familiar folks from the original series 😍#mommyreads #ya #steampunk

This entire set of series is fun and exciting. My biggest complaint is that the books are all 300 pages or less, but I would still recommend them.
Steampunk, supernatural (as well as preternatural and metanatural), adventure, and bits of romance thrown in.

Start with " Etiquette and Espionage ". There are 3 different series: Finishing School, Parasol Protectorate, and Custard Protocol.
