I have always loved Atwood's ability to write incredible speculative fiction. It's always believable, even if it feels implausible now. Nothing in Oryx & Crake is supernatural. It's all manmade, which gives the story a creep factor that impacts you on a deeper, unsettling level. The story is beautifully told, giving the reader enough to tell the story, with room for your own conclusions.

Finished Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke a few weeks ago and I am absolutely in love with the character Imogen. She is so incredibly relatable to me and my own high school experience - theatre geek with a few close friends and an ongoing battle with depression. Her strength and wit is inspiring. The story is well done and beautifully told. Definitely a must read. ❤️

I read/listened to The Goldfinch over about two weeks. When I saw the audiobook available at the library I snagged it, knowing it would take me forever to physically read a book this massive. I'm just coming to the home stretch and I have really enjoyed it. The characters are all well developed and the story is intertwined, spanning years, and yet easy to follow. Definitely a worth while read, even if it is a nearly daunting 800 pages.

This has become my favourite book to read with My daughter. She has been known to bring the book into my room in the morning when I'm getting ready because she is curious about a specific woman's story. Naturally, I take a few minutes to quickly read it over with her. When we read stories about the Brontës and Jane Austen, Lilly exclaimed "they are writers just like you Mama!" And my heart swelled. ❤️ I can't possibly recommend this book enough.

I was assigned this book as part of my lit class. I have loved that so much of my class has featured Canadian authors. The Wars is a beautiful account of one Canadian soldiers experience through WWI. It is unique in the way it is largely told from the perspective of a historian who is trying to piece together the main characters life. The story deals with love, death, violence and sexuality in a rough time in history. Definitely recommend.

I listened to the audiobook for The Girls. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. It was a unique take on a story everyone knows. It is more coming of age than fiction about a cult, so someone looking for a closet look at Manson won't get that. I will admit I found some of the writing a little overdone. Just a touch to poetic and contrived, but still very well written. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a little grit.

Rupi Kaur's poetry is shocking, stunning, and incredibly inspiring. Given my own personal history and childhood, a good deal of this book resonated with me so deeply. Poetry this raw makes me want to dive back into my own poetry book and hash out a few shocking lines of my own.❤️

I started this book on a Monday and had it finished by Tuesday night. I couldn't put it down, it was that incredibly moving. This book deals with sexual assault and adolescence in a way that is raw and heartbreaking. I truly feel this is an important book for anyone to read, but especially young adults. I highly recommend it.
