a different take on the classic Jane Eyre story.
As a fan of the original, I wanted to give this a go. It's interesting and funny at times. I personally prefer Jane on the original than this. She doesnt seem quite as strong. The plot is clever and a fun more supernatural twist on the classic. The ending was good if a little strange at the end but tied it off well. If I'm honest though I still prefer the original. 3*
Ah, this book was a delightfully creepy trip and a half. Following along with #Dracula‘s Lucy and #JaneEyre‘s Bertha, this book explores the real cost of immortality, and the lies and machinations of the men that trapped the two in eternal life. I‘m not much of a horror fan at all, but this book was gruesome at times and had a serious gothic feel, it felt more melancholy to me than anything else. Fast-paced, very well-drawn, and fascinating.

What did I just read? This wasn‘t for me - I‘m trying to read more Classics this year and this was to be a prequel to Jane Eyre. Here‘s to hoping my reading experience is vastly different for Jane Eyre than it was for Wide Sargasso Sea.
I guess this was my year of retellings/reimaginings! And my feelings of solidarity with the woman in the attic won out in the end ✊🔥
