I'm doing research for a book I've started on and stumbled across the book by #garyjennings. Aztec is such a well researched book. He really brings each scene to life with vivid detail. Warning: some of the scenes are gruesome! But then the book is about the Aztecs.

In the middle of reading an older Coben book. He never disappoints! Love where this story is going. He makes writing look so easy, which says how good he is.

Try saying Synonym Finder 5 times real fast! Lol. This is a great reference book if you don't like your word processor's thesaurus. Sometimes getting a big book out and going through it is great. It's easier to stumble upon a new word if you're going through a print book. At least for me.

LauraJ Agreed. I do the same with my thesaurus. 9y
SusanInTiburon So true! 9y

If you're into vampires this is the book for you even if you're not looking for a reference book for writing. The Vampire Book has over 800 pages. I love the paranormal so this encyclopedia of the undead was a must! The book goes back to 1047 AD where the word vampire first appeared in written word.

SecretLivesOfFictionLovers Would so love to read this! Definitely going on my TBR list. 😊 9y
brendanmleonard I was *obsessed* with this one in middle/high school. 9y
Librarian Going to have to find a copy of this! 9y
HDThomson I'm sure you can find a copy used on abebooks.com if you don't want to spend the extra. It's pretty comprehensive! 9y

Self-Editing for Fiction Writers | Renni Browne, Dave King

A NY Times Bestselling author suggested this book to me. It's come in handy when I first started writing. For indie pubbed, if you can't afford an editor, which I do HIGHLY encourage, then learning to self edit is a must. Also having a bag of M&Ms and a cold soda while editing is always a plus. 😄

MMFinck Agreed! Excellent. Of all I've read and studied, still one of the top. Top-top for sentence level craft. Sol Stein is my other frontrunner. 9y
MysticCat Highly recommend this book even before sending your MS to an editor. Very readable. Interesting examples used to illustrate their points. 9y
HDThomson I'll probably be pulling Sol Stein out as one of my favs. 😀. Yes the examples were great to refer back to again and again! 9y
Bookgeeker Great recommendation. I'm putting it on my list of books to get! 9y

The Complete Worse-Case Scenario Survival Guide is a great book for plot ideas for authors. It's a must in my reference #library and a great way to brainstorm a black moment! #amreading #referencebooks #writerslife #booknerd
