Got the new Flavia book! Started it on the plane and already 90 pages in. What a page turner! I forgot how much I love this series!

Finally reading this again. Last time I started and had to return to the library before I could finish it. Maybe I'm a faster reader now and won't have any holds put on it so I'll finally finish. Fingers crossed!

Hooked_on_books You could also read it on serial reader. No return needed! 8y
Jmstein @Hooked_on_books what's serial reader? Never heard of it. 8y
Hooked_on_books It's a free app for your phone that delivers a new section of a text each day. Many classics are on it, including AK. You can read ahead if you'd like or stick to the issue delivered that day. It's available for iPhone or android. 8y
Jmstein @Hooked__on__books That's so cool! I'll definitely look into it since this is quite a heavy book and hard to take with me. 8y

This is the Potala Palace in Tibet where the Dalai Lama used to live before leaving. Looks gorgeous in the photo but he said he hates living there because it was cold and damp and dark. Very interesting book!

Lolita | Vladimir Nabokov

Famous first lines...in Russian. Little known fact is that Nabokov wrote Lolita in English and then did the Russian translation himself. He had an impressive grasp on English and writes beautifully! I've been studying Russian since 2004 and can only dream of being as good as him in English.

Ms.Story Can't read a word of it, but it's beautiful! 8y

It's so rare that bookstores have books on figure skating. I've already read both these but it made me so happy to see them. What kind of books are you always hard-pressed to find in used bookstores?

BookishFeminist 💕 Michelle Kwan! Do you figure skate? I'm always hard pressed to find books on feminist theory. 8y

This book looks somewhat interesting, buried in with all the other "treasure," including an 1897 Sears catalog...real antiques here.

That moment when you stumble upon a book sale and get excited only to see the selection is a bit crap. They had TWO biographies of Nancy Reagan. 😂

What an interesting perspective on art and creating. I never thought of it as a reminder of how far we've come and what a luxury it is.

"You must learn how to become a deeply disciplined half-ass." Another similar quote is, "Progress, not perfection." Stop worrying about being perfect and just create something! Even those we revere never think their work is good enough.

Love this quote! It rings so true for me, not as a writer but as a person, I often feel that journaling something just gets it out of my head and helps me organize and clarify my thoughts. Really enjoying this book so far!

Just finished and loved this book! Not what I was expecting at all. I thought the characters were going to be spoiled brats. But they were all well rounded and had just made mistakes. The family dynamic was so relatable and I was cheering for them the whole time. Recommend to everyone.

LiteraryinPA I'm glad! I just ordered it from my local independent bookstore and I'm eager to read it! 9y

Discovering new books and graphic novels at The Strand today. No trip to NYC is complete without stopping by. It's even better than I remember it being last time.

Started this book a while ago and it was slow to start, then sucked me in all at once, then slowed down a bit and I set it aside. Just picked it back up and am now absorbed once again. Hope to finally finish it and maybe even pick up the second book.

LoBro What made it slow down? The plot or the characters? 9y
Jmstein @LoBro It's been so long that I don't remember. There's a lot of hard science in the book and I think I read it in short spurts so it didn't give me time to get into the story. Sitting down and reading for a longer time would have been beneficial. Now that I picked it up though I can't put it down! 9y

New library stack! All my reserved books came in at once and I'm feeling a little stressed about whether I'll be able to read them all in time. 20 days to read 6 books. Think I can do it? They are popular so have holds and I can't renew them. Started Lab Girl last night and love it so far.

Still not sure how I feel about this book. I started it recently and it's not quite what I expected. I think I was expecting more sci fi elements. Also the main character hasn't been fleshed out enough so I don't relate to him. Does it get better? Should I keep reading?

Oh man, this book! It's a tiny little thing but it packs a punch. I cried at the end and ran and hugged my husband because it made me realize life is short and the people you love are so important so cherish those relationships, nourish them, have the courage to heal them.

That moment when you're listening to an episode of Books on the Nightstand and you've actually just rad both of the "2 books we can't wait for you to read." ? First time that's ever happened!

I love the old Avengers series with Steed & Peel and was so psyched to discover this graphic novel series. But it was a little hard to follow and I just didn't love it as much as I wanted to. But now I want to r-ewatch this show!

LoBro That belt must chafe like crazy! Love the retro-look, though. 9y
Jmstein @LoBro Haha I know right!? I loved Emma Peel's retro clothes though. 9y

I ended up DNFing this book after finally getting around to picking it up. I absolutely love ancient Egypt and find it so fascinating but, strangely enough, many topics I love don't often translate into books. I've yet to read a great book set in ancient Egypt.

Current reading this sci fi classic. I've been trying to delve into some earlier science fiction recently. So far it's really interesting.

LoBro I really, really liked this book, I hope you'll enjoy the rest of it as well. The two next books in the trilogy is calling from the shelves... 9y
Jmstein Thanks! I am definitely interested to read more and see how things play out. Have you read the rest of the series @LoBro? 9y
LoBro Not yet, but I bet it's great so I should make it a priority. 9y

I love Amber Rose and think her intentions with this book are good but I don't think I'm the target audience so I didn't get much out of it. I did enjoy getting to know more about her back story though.
