Loved this book as a kid! Great modern fantasy (twist in the traditional literature) book was on the 2006 sunshine state young reader‘s list and would be a good independent read for students. The story is about a princess who is told she has marry a terrible prince, so she runs away. She meets another prince...but he‘s a frog and she kisses him to turn him back. Except she turned into a frog as well and then they go on a quest to find the witch.

Over time the boy grows and then he doesn‘t need apples anymore, but he needs wood for a house, and the tree gives it to him. Then later in life the man need wood for a boat and the tree gives him that. As an old man he needs somewhere to sit...on the stump of what used to be the tree.

So they begin to put a stone in boiling water, a villager comes over. They explain they‘re making soup from a stone, and have the villager taste it. Then they mention other foods to throw in to make it taste better and the villager obeys every time.

This book is a realistic fiction story that would be great for partner reading students together. The story is about a boy who is placed next to the class hamster and he loves the class hamster. Every week the teacher gooses a hamster helper, but it has never been Sam. When the class goes on a field trip, Sam decided to bring the hamster along and even though there were some struggles he managed to bring the hamster back to the class.

The book is about a boy who has a cranio-facial deformity and is starting public school in 5th grade. The story follows Auggie with his struggle for finding friends (good friends), and the bullies that he encounters at school. Then it goes from a testament of friendship and acceptance of people who may be unique.

This is a historical fiction, was on the sunshine state list, and would be great for a literature circle read. The story is about a young girl who has moved to a new place and living life with just her and her dad. Then she encounters a dog that begins to change her life. The dog found in a grocery store, helps the girl to discover new friends and through losing Winn Dixie the girl and her father work through issues that were buried deep.

This is a really cute historical fiction book, that would be good for a guided read with a student. This story is about a father and son who visit the wall (of people lost in the Vietnam war) to find the boys grandfather‘s name. This book is about a young boy who rides the bus with his grandma after church on Sunday, and he starts complaining comparing his life and what they do to other people (why do we have to ride the bus?). Then grandma points out all the amazing things and interesting people they get to meet and see because they ride the bus.

This book is a science fiction winner of the Hugo award and would be a great book for literature circles. The book is set in a futuristic war where the smartest kids are taken and trained in the academy. There Ender faces challenges and excels at new rates. He has issues with others around him and for being understood, but is constantly pushed and forced to grow. The war with the aliens is coming to a near close and it seems to be all on Ender.

This book is a Ukrainian folklore traditional literature being retold and illustrated by Jan Brett with amazing borders this book could be used for a dramatic reenactment. This story is really cute it talks about how a grandmother, Baba, knits mittens for her grandson. When he loses a mitten, many animals decide to use the mitten to stay warm. The borders are great because they give a little bit of foreshadowing of what is to come.

This book is a great poetry book that has a song to go with it as well, and would be fun for storytelling. Summary: this book is great for younger students who are still clarifying their letters and numbers.
