I think this would work best as a read aloud and can be paired with either science or just learning how to be kind to the environment by watching out for fellow inhabitants like animals. This book is about two ducks trying to find a place to start a family and talks about kindness from an animals perspective. #UCFLAE3414SP18

This could be linked to art since it talks about painting and singing. KaitlynN The art is so so good! I also love the image you put up. I think Olivia is a good example for kids. She knows she is good a lots of things, but she still makes mistakes and runs into all kinds of situations. My cousin loved the show when she was little. I think a lot of kids would know Olivia from the cartoon too! 7y

This book would make a great storytelling because it has the basic formation of a story, starting with “Once upon a Time,” and because of its organization. But he realizes he likes something way more... It took me a few chapters to get into it but once I did I could not put it down. It‘s about 4 students who are all connected which you find out how throughout the book. This book hits some serious topics and is a GREAT read! #UCFLAE3414SP18

Jeffersleighann I think this would be a great literature circle book because the students would be able to bring their own background knowledge to the table to help others understand the book. This book also shines a light on divorce, bullying, remarriage, parents death, etc. This would be great book for students to come together as a community. EL 38. KaitlynN I really like the artwork you shared! For some reason I‘m drawn to it. Like I would put a giant print of this up in my house. I think the themes you mentioned might tie strong emotions to this artwork and I think those connections are interesting. When kids can articulate where they see topics and feeling reflected in art it proves they are thinking deeply about whatever the topic is! (edited) 7y

Jeffersleighann This book is about August Pullman, a normal kid with a very deformed face. This book is about his journey of starting 5th grade (he was previously home schooled). This book includes point of views from Auggies family and friends and is eye opening for educators, students and people overall. I learned a lot from this book and learned a lot about choosing kindness. 7y

JordanL This book looks like a fun read, especially for younger grades. It would be nice for background knowledge for some students as it's their first time hearing it. Also, it's a good idea for ELL's to understand and gain comprehension about the different materials within the book. 7y

I think this would make a great literature circle book because it is a book that continues to hold attention even when it‘s confusing. I think this book is really relatable so students will be able to understand what the characters are going through and there are some great discussion points they can discuss in their circles. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Jeffersleighann UDL 7.2: Optimize relevance, value and authenticity. For this I feel like during discussion you can have students step into the characters shoes and point out items like how Meg‘s flaws made her unique, etc. 7y

ambera If it is a book that can be confusing then I agree that literature circles would be the best way to go. It will allow students to discuss which parts they are struggling with and they will be able to help each other understand. 7y

I think this book would make a great read aloud because it has a lot to do with information and this book could also spark a research project. When I was a child I was obsessed with the Iditarod race in Alaska and would follow the race online every year. It would be a great project for research skills and this book could go along well with that. #UCFLAE3414SP18

I think this book could be used in a lot of ways in the classroom because I think this book gives a different perspective on someone who is adopted‘s birthday and provides insight into something many students wouldn‘t know normally. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Jeffersleighann This book is the cutest book! I bought it while on vacation in Georgia and started to tear up in the book store. This book is about a little girl (who is adopted) asking about the night she was born. This book shines light on the love that is involved in adoption and how special the process is. 7y

Locomotive by: Brian Floca; Genre: NF; Award: The Robert F. Divert Honor Book (Silver), The Caldecott Medal (Gold); Teaching Strategy: IR. I feel this book would be best used in the classroom as an independent reading book because it is a long book and is very wordy so it would take too much time to be a out loud reading. I also feel that the student can become more engaged in the book when they are on their own with it. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Two Bobbies by: Kirby Larson & Mary Nethery; Genre: B; Teaching Strategy: RA. I feel this book would be a great read aloud book because it is engaging and is a great interactive book that could teach children empathy. This book could also be used in a social studies lesson because it correlates to a historical event (Hurricane Katrina). #UCFLAE3414SP18

Jeffersleighann This book is about two animals surviving hard times together with each other‘s friendship. The first time I read it, it was shocking how depressing it was (at first but SPOILER there is a happy ending) but it really captures the aspects of what was going on at the time in New Orleans. 7y

DrSpalding Empathy, yes! This wonderful book shares themes about survival and friendship while also sharing some details about this tragic event. Make sure you show the children where New Orleans is in relation to where they live. Geography skills can easily be added when events occur in other locations. 7y

I feel this book would be a great literature circle book because it draws in the reader and makes you feel like you are part of the Conch‘s & Turtle‘s world. This would be a great book to get students involved in reading and create a love of reading, while having some great discussion points and being relatable. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Jeffersleighann This book was about a girl name Turtle who is sent to her Aunt in Key West when her mother takes up a new housekeeping job with a cranky old lady and can no longer keep Turtle with her. This book is emotionally packed while still being light hearted and is one of the best reads I‘ve had in a long time! Absolutely loves this book and would love to incorporate it into my classroom! 7y
