How awkward will it be when I ask Margaret Atwood to sign my ancient copy of The Handmaid's Tale later this week??
I had heard this was great and was going to save it for next trip to Australia, but then I saw it at the library and that plan was abandoned! It really is good - well-developed sense of place (Perth) and time (just after WWII) and a quietly developing love story. Definitely recommended.
Parts of this were annoyingly curmudgeonly, but then there was a Jonathan Richman reference and my heart melted 💚❣💙
I was into this until the end, but I thought too many semi-shocker plot points were packed into the last 15 pages for a book that, though it chronicles a crime, is less a thriller and more a coming of age tale.
I already owned this, and when I saw it on Barack Obama's summer reading list I knew it was time to tackle it! Hopefully when the next president takes over Obama starts a book blog.
Tackling that Booker long list! I needed an icy book to distract myself from the humidity in NY.
No #24in48 for me because I have a travel day for next week's work trip, but here's the beginning attempt to get through some of the older releases on my shelves! About aging and radicalism and the law--first Spiotta I've read and I'm impressed!
Loved his Last Policeman series, so figured I should check out his newest! 20 pages in and I can tell it's going to be a great read.
Work trip hotel room reading! I never get through as many books as I hope I do on these trips - hopefully this time will be different.
Perfect warm weather recipe from the perfect special occasion cookbook. Happy Independence Day, America, and please don't screw over the coming election, ok?
Big SCOTUS day tomorrow. How am I supposed to focus on work when there's going to be a ton of political commentary??
Help. All my library holds came in at once.
Lyrical. Compact. Hard to believe this is his first full-length novel--I'll be watching for more.
Prominent Christians openly repudiated water's cleansing effect as superficial, vain, and decadent. "A clean body and a clean dress," opined one, "means an unclean soul."
A+ should have been a sick day book (meaning I went to work but wasn't happy about it and now I'm sitting on the couch reading)
Gloomy horror, gloomy evening, cozy blanket.
