Maisie Dobbs: A Novel by Jacqueline Winspear

*spoiler alert* Highly recommended. It's violent, but the violence is a necessary element and appropriately portrays the atrocities of slavery. In a way the ending disappointed me because I want to know everything turned out ok for Cora but the author needed to end it as he did to hit home to the reader, safe and comfortable in his/her life, the unsteady and uneasy feeling of not knowing your next move or if you will be safe from day to day.

I'm about a third into the audiobook. Looking forward to my long car ride alone tomorrow so I can "read" for several hours! I'm so glad my book club selected it, otherwise I probably would have missed out on this gem. #mohoswithlibros

Disjointed and slow to develop. just when I'd think the storyline would focus, it would veer off again. There were bits of goodness that kept me from completely bailing but I skipped many whole sections and was mostly glad to finish so I could move on to another book.

I wish there were a higher rating than just like. This book pulled me right it. It was unpredictable and kept me guessing to the end.

Clever and intriguing. This reminded me of Gone Girl. I flew through it and really enjoyed it.

Fascinating history but the presentation left something to be desired.

I read this while my son was reading it for school so we could discuss it as he had questions. Tough subject matter but good themes of the resilience the human spirit and a strong reminder of the importance of remembrance so we never repeat history.

bookishkai Oh, I loved this book as a kid. Even then I was a sucker for time travel. 9y

Bad title. In general, however, I enjoyed following the story of these women.
