For class we only read the Miller‘s Tale, the Wife of Bath‘s Tale, and the Nun‘s Priest‘s Tale. Now I know why. Listened to it on audiobook and, damn, some of these stories never ended it seemed! Of course, those three were good and I enjoyed them again but the rest? Meh.

I‘m usually not one for super complex story lines so two of the three story lines kind of went over my head. I know what happened but it took me until he very end to understand why these three seemingly random plots were happening in one book. Especially when the third, the only one I really understood completely, didn‘t start until part two! But I‘m a hopeless romantic so that‘s why I understood Margarita‘s story line better than the other two.

I bailed on this book before but then I took a “Intro to English Literature” class. Honestly, I tried reading it again and didn‘t get very far. Cliff notes and study buddies were my friend. Finally, today, I caved and listened to an abridged audiobook version. I understand why it‘s very important and now that I‘ve taken the class I understand it a lot more. Still not my thing.

Here are five plays I read while on vacation! Pippin, Into the Woods, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Grease, and Waiting For Lefty.

This book provides a great look into what being Deaf was like starting in the mid-nineteenth century. They different ways the Hearing population pretty much controlled the lives of Deaf individuals without really consulting them. 10/10 would recommend.

An amazing feminist novel that doesn‘t disparage men in general. Anne Brontë‘s sarcastic approach to talking about societal roles is refreshing. 10/10 would recommend.

This was an interesting book to listen to. I think it would be a great book to dissect in an English class! However, I don‘t know how I actually feel about the book. The ending felt a bit rushed but the climax words the ending was amazing and I think it worked for the book, if that makes any sense. I wish we got more background on what Dorian did that was so bad because we don‘t get to see everything he does. Great read but mixed feelings.

So this was a required reading last semester for my “World Religions” course. I just finished it. If you have some knowledge of Buddhism or Mindfulness then this is a really interesting read. If you don‘t though then this book might not be for you. It does ramble a little and some of the sayings can be confusing, especially if you aren‘t used to the ideas in Buddhism/Mindfulness. The points about how science and religion are interwoven were nice!

It‘s March and I finally read my first book, an audiobook, of the year. It was Animal Farm by George Orwell. I had to read 1984 my Senior year and fell in love with it. So, I had high expectations for Animal Farm and boy did Orwell not let me down! If you haven‘t read it yet, either by choice or by force, then I highly recommend this book! Orwell may be my favorite author now. My goal is thirty books by the end of the year so I need to step up!

I had to read this for my World Religions class. The author is actually my professor and now I have to write a ten-page paper on it. I would have bailed on this book halfway through the first chapter if I could. Not an easy read.

Not my favorite but definitely in my top three Jane Austen novels. Fanny Price is definitely one of the least irritating girls that the author wrote about. A complete one-eighty from Emma. For which I am grateful. 10/10 would read again.

A quick and cute book!

John Oliver said it best “A bunch of animals die and so in a way does the American Dream.” The socialism at the end was really uplifting though!

I didn‘t dress up today, unless tired college kid counts, because of cold weather and long day but I did finish another audiobook!

The story of a Deaf Hungarian boy during the Holocaust is an amazing book of survival. A must read for any Deaf Studies major!!!!

This is another Jane Austen that I‘m glad I read in audiobook form. I do not like Emma and I really just don‘t understand why Mr. Knightley does! The only character I truly like is Jane Fairfax and, a little bit, Harriet Smith.

My first audiobook of the new semester and I picked a great one! The research that Weir put into this is astounding. I'm definitely going to have to buy this book. Now to watch the movie for the first time!

A friend of mine gave me his collection of Roald Dahl books and I was so excited to read them! I've only read one Dahl book, which I'm saving for last, a long time ago. I decided to start with The BFG since they just made a movie. Such a fun quick read! Great for a beginning reader!

I read this for one of my college courses. I would definitely recommend it to anyone is a Deaf Studies major or is interested in the history of Deaf education in America. I will also put a warning up for excessive Congress back and forth.

Such an amazing read! Warning though for graphic descriptions of violence against animals.

Jane Austen's attempt at satire beautifully encompasses what I hate most about period novels. It picks apart the high class social structure and expectations while still being a genuine novel of its time. Austen manages to make fun of her own books while still telling a good love story. Highly recommended.

I have to say, of the Lord of the Rings series, this one is my favorite. However, there was again too much singing (though not as much as the first two) and the destruction of the ring was anticlimactic. The chapters about the Shire were amazing! I could have read three books on what happened while Frodo was gone. That would have been amazing.

Less songs, thank god, but just as much world building as the Fellowship. You can easily loose the plot in the flowery words that JRRTolkien uses to describe things. I can see why some people love this series, but it's not my thing.

Really good book once you go through all the world building and singing. Both glad I listened to the audiobook and sad that I did. They guy reading it sang every song. It got super annoying.

I've been so busy with my classes that I haven't had time to read any books. My Spring Break starts on Friday but this is the only book I'm going to be reading. Life of a College Student.

The first feminist literature that I actually like! It goes over gender roles, how men can have typically "feminine" qualities. It is also probably one of the earliest works about a transgender person. A must read!

Out of the three Jane Austen audiobooks I've listened to so far, Persuasion is my favorite. There is less of a focus on inheritance/high class etiquette and more of a focus on the romance. Such a good book, highly recommended!

Deaf Studies and American Sign Language Major.

Much better than Sense & Sensibility! I can see why there is such high praise for this book. I love the slow evolution of Elizabeth's love for Darcy. My only wish was that there was less gossiping women! I cannot stand Mrs. Bennet/Mrs. Lucas/Lydia Bennet. I am just as embarrassed by them as Lizzy is! And since the gossip and needless talking, mostly from Mrs. Bennet, is prominent throughout the book, the audiobook is all I will enjoy.

I'm glad I listened to the audiobook as I will probably never own this book. That being said, I liked it far more than I thought I would. It was decent once you got all the old-timey "You need to marry someone with money."

My love for Alice Liddell continues on! I did so much research when I played her at Dickens Fair that she, and Reverend Dodgson's story, have become a very important part of my life. Reading all this research, far more then I did, that Douglas-Fairhurst has done warms my heart and curious mind.

Quick and funny read!

Very interesting read. It's cool to see how the Jewish folktales differ from other more mainstream fairytales. The list of jokes at the end is hilarious!

I totally forgot to show everyone my Christmas book haul! My mother's boyfriend apparently really wanted me to like him so he got me ALL the books. Without really considering if I'd like them or not. So along with say, Hamilton, I got a book on Mother Teresa. Ooooookay.

Borrowed this from a friend, who says it's written by his great uncle. George and his family escaped from Vienna, Austria to the United States during WW2. Its a great book that I feel just falls a little short. It seemed like the author didn't think his life after the war was interesting or worth noting. This man went on to research cancer in California! However there is a chapter that goes from 1946-1964. The book left me wanting more.

Very quick read which is perfect if you're trying to get a child into reading! Beaumont took Villeneuve's original "La Belle et La Bête" and shortened it for a fairytale that children could read. Really quick and really good!

This is a great book to learn the fundamentals of Judaism! The chapters were well thought out an easy to understand. Something that I didn't expect, and loved, was the phonetic pronunciation of each new Hebrew word!

I'm sad though that I forgot to take a picture of the book before I returned it to my library. Oh well!

I'm sick and watching my mother's house while she is in New York. I played so much Pokémon Sun that my head hurts. Time to take some Tylenol and learn about a new culture.

I have now learned that Epics are not my thing. I'm sure, orally, this is a great book. It's just a really boring read.

This is the second audiobook that I've listened to and loved! This first person narrative beautifully gives a voice to all romantics. The characters were all well rounded and beautifully written. The love between Jane and Edward is pure and undeniable. This is a book that I will be buying do that I can read it again and again!

Great writing and plot. Didn't care for the characters themselves even though they were excellently written. The ending felt rushed. All in all, I'm glad I picked up the audiobook at my library because it was interesting to listen to BUT it's not a book I'm going to buy.

My next audiobook!

I may have "read" this story in audiobook format but it is definitely a book I'm going to have to buy! Such a great story! Not horror either! Must read!
