Discworld 04 - Mort | Pratchett, Terry

Pickpick

“Death: “Your should have worked out by now that everyone gets what they think is coming to them. It's so much neater that way.“

Mort: “I know, sir. But that means bad people who think they're going to some sort of paradise actually do get there. And good people who fear they're going to some kind of horrible place really suffer. It doesn't seem like justice.““

Beowulf | Santiago García

Mehso-so

I am a fan of all things Beowulf. I have enjoyed Beowulf in all of his varieties and versions, obviously some more than others. While I enjoyed the dizzying artwork of this graphic novel, I felt much of the story was a bit rushed. I am sure it is a very difficult task to translate Beowulf into a graphic novel fit for mass consumption, but I felt some of the finer points that made Beowulf so interesting to me were missing in this version.

I originally bought the book, this shows a lack of research on my part, as a history of Japanese baseball. It does delve into a little bit of the history of baseball in Japan, as well as thoroughly show examples of American individualism versus Japanese “Wa", harmony, unity, and conformity to the team. Interestingly enough the author, Robert Whiting, was banned from the Tokyodome by the Yomiuri Giants for some of his articles he wrote about them.
