Too YA for me, the writing is the opposite of subtle and the characters and their actions just don't make sense... The premise and the settings are interesting but that's about it. Too bad.

I loved this trilogy. It manages to deal with tropes in a deep and meaningful way while taking you places you didn't see coming. The characterization and evolution of Juliette is one of the best I've read. This is how you do "character plot twist" right: you see things in a different way but the characters haven't really changed and stay true to themselves. I kinda want to go back and read the first and second books all over again.
I feel like I've missed something with this one... The main character was pretty good, stubborn and modern, a 21st century feminist but I thought the other characters were pretty boring and it seems we forgot the whole point of the book (the contest) pretty quickly... I did not find the romance cute or swoon-worthy or anything. A shame.
Currently re-reading this series to catch up and I have to say it's even better on re-read. Mac (the narrator) is actually writing quite some time after the events and you can only really understand some comments if you've finished the series (at least the previously ended series that ended with book 5). It's still one of my favorite series of all time - it's got it all! But mostly excellent character evolution and plot!
Just finished the Rose and the Dagger and I have to say I really like this dualogy! I definitely prefer the first one, I think this one was a bit rushed but enjoyable all the same. (Sorry for the weirdly cropped photo, I'm not quite used to this app yet! 😅)
Very moving book, I'd heard so much about it that I was actually suprised by the actual story. The most interesting part though is the characters and how flawed and complex they are, unapologetically flawed.
Probably my favorite rom-com ever! And I'm usually not a big fan of those... 😋 Super sweet romance that hits all the tropes yet leaves you on the edge of your seat, that's a five stars for me!
5/5 ⭐
