Young Elites
Young Elites | Marie Lu
An explosive new series from "New York Times" bestselling author of the Legend trilogy, Marie Lu Darth Vader, Voldemort, Maleficent. Witness the rise of a new villain. Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a "malfetto," an abomination, ruining their family s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites. Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all. Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they ve never seen. Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her. "It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt." Books in the series: "The Young Elites"(The First Book of The Young Elites) "The Rose Society"(The Second Book of The Young Elites)"

Marie Lu has an absolute knack for making readers fall in love with her characters only to break their hearts. This first installment of the trilogy goes into the life of Adelina and her pain growing up as a Malfetto. As she‘s to be executed she is rescued by the Dagger Society. Thats when things go both right and wrong. If you‘re looking for a developing hero look elsewhere because this series is budding for a potential major villain arc.

I love when an author can vividy describe everything and really draw you into their world. I could picture all of the Young Elites and the events so clearly. I found the idea of the malfettos with their unique markings and gifts interesting. They should have been able to be happy they survived the blood fever but instead the were being portrayed as outcasts and now monsters. Even in fictional worlds people are scared of what they don't understand.

I just wish that books with odd names for characters or places would come with a pronunciation guide. Then I wouldn't have to just be making them up 🤣

5th book read during #JubilantJuly @Andrew65
YA fantasy book. A strange illness affected many communities in this world were many people died. Some of the children who survived, developed some kind of powers. But the king and the Queen want to exterminate them and that is the reason the Young Elite Society was created, to regain the kingdom. I like the idea of these powers related with energy. But I can‘t stand is Adelina⬇️

Gissy What an annoying, selfish, terrible character. This first book is to introduce the world, who are the Young Elites and how they train to master and control their powers. Let‘s see what happen in the second book. 3.5⭐️

This is a surprisingly dark book, but I love the references to The Prince and the Inferno. Adelina, like others who lived through the plague, has powers, unlike the others she did not manifest her powers until she kills her father. She is recruited by a group of others with powers to try to over throw the corrupt queen and much chaos ensues. 3/5 stars. If you enjoyed Nevernight, but want something a little less intense, this is the book for you.

I managed to get halfway through this and then gave up. I didn't like anyone, aside from Raffaele who was more of a supporting character. It was a good concept and it started strong, but then the writing fell flat for me. I just wasn't invested enough to see what happened next.

DogMomIrene @bookishbitch Not at all just you. When I was a middle school library specialist, there were a few students who loved her books and recommended them to all their friends, but most of the regular readers were like, “nah, tried her once. I‘ll pass.” 4y

Most of this book was like any other super power book with a girl main character. She can't control her powers, a man has to come help her, she gets caught between good and evil, blah blah, heard it a million times. But the ending has me a lot more interested and I think it's going to take a turn from a boring same old book, to a much more interesting one. I am going to continue onto book 2.

10/13-10/16
Fiction: In the beginning, the main character Adelina Amouteru, struggled with her powers and letting her fears taking control. However, throughout the book she manages to take advantage of it and uses it to protect her and the people she loves. It teaches a story on life by being brave by turning your weaknesses into your strength. And showing that we shouldn't take our weaknesses take advantage of us.

I enjoyed the worldbuilding in this one a whole lot but I can‘t really say the same thing about a lot of the characters. I didn‘t really care for the main character, I would‘ve rather read about some of the others. Not sure if I‘ll be picking up the second book in the series, at least not right away if at all.

What a turn of events! I lived how the story started and where it went, up to about 3/4 in. The ending seems rushed and at a loss of action. I would say it fits the story, though, but it isn‘t what I was expecting. Adelina going down this dark path is amazing, but the final push seemed so desperate in the end. This is turning into a story of the villain -which I do love- but seems so forced. Might go for the next book.

I love these little blurbs at the top of Adelinas chapters. The few from an Inquisitors point actual adds a little more about the other side. The point that she had this dark festering in her, from the years of abuse from her father, being basically the root of where her power of illusions come from is an interesting twist. Adelina likes that darkness. I love how she is learning with one eye. So I‘m very interested in where Marie Lu will take her.

1st time reading this author & I really loved her writing style & how she developed all the characters. Her story captured me from the beginning & I liked the end. It was a realistic turn, even though I was a little heartbroken. I'll definitely read the sequel. The only concern I have is that some readers may stop reading when they reach the middle because the pace slows down quite a bit. But other than that I truly recommend it!

Poor Adelina. First she survives -yet so scarred- from the mysterious fever that claimed her mother, gave her unknown powers and turned her father abusive to her. Now she is on death row for said dangerous (misunderstood) powers. Where will this book take her?

The darkness of Adelina really reels you into the story! I enjoyed this book a lot, and it met a lot of the expectations, since Marie Lu's Legend series was absolute perfection! This was quite different and so interesting because there were three POVs, and you really get to see the insides of the characters at a glimpse. The suspense and action is so breathtaking and I LOVED IT!
