the world as it was could never be more than a fraction of the world, for the real also consisted of what could have happened but didn‘t, that one road was no better or worse than any other road, but the torment of being alive in a single body was that at any given moment you had to be on one road only, even though you could have been on another, traveling toward an altogether different place.

The Nix | Nathan Hill

Starting this few days ago!first work of #NathanHill, #thenix ...can‘t wait to see if al the great reviews are valid...by the way, it‘s really a massive book! ❤️

Bloomingjen I bought this a couple of months ago but havent read it. what was your opinion? 6y
Pat1287 Well, for me it‘s a good debut novel...sometimes a little bit pretentious in some passages (a read somewhere that Nathan Hill ‘s writing was similar to David foster Wallace or Delillo...not at all, these two are so much better for me..) but you can understand how kind of writing is this one...the story is really interesting, compelling and Hill, for me, he‘s an acute observer of american society...one flaw: too dull for me the “happy ending”... 6y

Light In August | William Faulkner

He thought that it was loneliness which he was trying to escape and not himself. But the street ran on: catlike, one place was the same as another to him. But in none of them could he be quiet. But the street ran on in its moods and phases, always empty: he might have seen himself as in numberless avatars,in silence, doomed with motion, driven by the courage of flagged and spurred despair;by the despair of courage whose opportunities had to be flagged

I am dying now, but i still have many things to say. I used to be at peace with myself. Quiet and at peace. But it all blew up unexpectedly. That wizened youth is to blame. I was at peace...

The particulars of new places grabbed me and held me, the sweep of new coasts, cold, lovely, dawns. The world was incomprehensibly large, and there was still so much to see. Yes, I got sick sometimes of being an expatriate, always ignorant, on the outside of things, but I didn't feel ready for domestic life, for seeing the same people, (...) each day. I liked surrendering to the onrush, the uncertainty, the serendipity of the road

A dog, a book and amazing quotes..."I touch your mouth, I touch the edge of your mouth with my finger, I am drawing it as if it were something my hand was sketching, as if for the first time your mouth opened a little, and all I have to do is close my eyes to erase it and start all over again (...), and which by some chance that I do not seek to understand coincides exactly with your mouth which smiles beneath the one my hand is sketching on you."

For propaganda, of course. It's all in your own book. How can we persuade others to be good, without evil we can point to? #vollmann #europecentral
