Did some Xmas shopping at B&N today and had to gift myself this one. It is so beautiful. Check it out if you haven‘t. Our BN is closing in Feb and I don‘t have a lot of extra money for books so this might be my last trip in the store. Say what you will about the evils of corporate bookstores but to be young in Evansville IN and have a store with a gay and lesbian section was a marvel (esp in the 90s which were a lot different than today)

gradcat Is the B&N going out of business there? So sad...even if it is corporate. Some small cities don‘t have anything else.... 6y
NatalieR That‘s terrible news about your BN. I was in Evansville this past weekend for a concert and drove by BN. It was too late for shopping though. 6y
Bloomingjen @NatalieR the Bloomington BN is closing. I am not sure about Eville. My mom heard it was closing but it is still open so she doesn‘t know what is up with that one. 6y

It has been an unusual year for me in that I have read a lot of the NBA finalists in the year they were nominated. Believers has been my favorite read with There There being a close second. The Friend was total 💩. And I understood going into it that it wasn‘t really about the dog but I read it hoping to find some insight into grief. It was unreadable crap.

I am enjoying this book because I like the main character and the writing is great. it is also making me anxious because I am worried something bad will happen to her or an animal (any animal). I know the anxiety is also part of what makes it such a good book but I don‘t know if I can take it. Is it worth it to finish it if I can‘t enjoy myself?

Eyelit Imho, no - it‘s not worth it if you can‘t enjoy yourself 6y

At the amazing West Baden Springs Hotel on which the fictional hotel in this book is based. I bought a copy of this book at the hotel because I am dorky and like buying a book that has a connection to a place - if that makes sense.

I haven‘t posted in forever but I had to hop on just to say this book is incredible. The author does a fairly good job of representing what it was like to live through the AIDS crisis in the 80s. I had a hard time reading it at times because of the memories it brought up.

I finished another book for #Booked2018 - different from his other books and really intense - not what I expected. I just happened to think, they sure do spend a lot of time in the forest for people living in a place called Beartown, You‘d think they would worry about bears. FYI this adorable guy is the first pic to pop up when one does a Google image search for “Norway bear” I recalled after finding this that he is actually Swedish but this guy

I listened to this and then realized it would work for #Booked2018 POC author. I tried to read it last year but it was just too violent. I am not sure why listening to it made it easier to take. Anyway, 1 book down and only about 150 pages left in Beartown.

alisiakae Congrats on finishing a prompt! I heard Colson Whitehead at a reading when he was on book tour. Did he do the audio book? Hearing a passage in his voice before I read it definitely contributed to why I liked it so much. (edited) 7y

Have you guys heard about the Bowie Book Club? It was started by his son to read Bowie's 100 favorite books. Unfortunately, he unknowingly started with a book that is out of print and hard to find. 1 last book to finish #LitsyRC and 4/5 reading challenges- didn't finish Mount TBR but I'm fine with that. I have mixed feelings about reading challenges after my 1st yr of completing them. I had a blast organizing and planning books but I looked over my list of books read for the yr & realized I didn't love any of them. Maybe RCs aren't to blame for that but I have a ton of books I am dying to read & I am holding off to finish RCs.

Betty That's why I decided not to do any challenges next year. Makes me feel like I'm back in school with a dozen mandatory homework assignments. I'll read what I want when I want! So Be It! 7y

Enjoyed revisiting this play very much. This is such a great reminder of what we have gone through to get to where we are today. It is so applicable to the world we are living in now. There are so many connections to today in this book. It is painful to consider the history. Thank you @Susannah for choosing this for #qgp2
