Fascinating man. He seemed to have been in the center of the world (or Paris, which might be the same thing) in his day. I hadn't heard of him, but fell in love with his portraits by reading this book, and seeing the images that were included.
Before I could really read, my mother recorded books for me so I could follow along. The numbers in the corner coordinated to the recording. Finding these books brings up happy memories!
I zipped right through this fun read! Alaric and Willa are terrific characters, but I also really enjoyed their friends and family, Lavinia and Lady Knowe in particular. The friendship between Willa and Lavinia is just beautiful.
I'm now re-reading it, since I don't want to miss any of the witty dialogue. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
Loves it! Ellie's the kind of person I'd like to be: competent, witty, savvy and compassionate. Also loved 6-year-old Judith, whose confidence knows no bounds!
For whatever reason, I'd not read this previously. It was excellent and disturbing. I can certainly see why there's renewed interest in this book and it's related series. Worth a read!
As enjoyable as I'd hoped. Newman shares her family's story with real heart and often LOL humor.
Fun, zippy read. I particularly liked one of the secondary characters, Alice Tombs, who was hilarious. Hope she gets her own book! I liked the lead character's, Charlene's, spirit and caring nature. How could the Duke resist??
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Amanda Quick's characters! Smart, witty women and surly men who realize how lucky they are to have those women. Harriet was sharp, tenacious and caring. Gideon, honorable but alone. They work it out. I'd for Harriet's sister, Felicity, to have her own story!
This story was just heartbreaking! It is difficult for me to fathom the level of greed and cruelty shown to the victims in this book. An excellent, though terribly sad, read.
