You know when you finish a book and you want to reread it, hug it, stare at the cover in silent contemplation, and make literally everyone you know read it ALL AT THE SAME TIME? That's how I felt finishing Before by Carmen Boullosa, trans. Peter Bush (@deepvellum). Exquisite and haunting prose and voice, an absolutely beautiful, dark, compelling, and magical tale.

I had been super excited to read Rochester Knockings because duh I love spiritualism, but I'm sorry to say it disappointed in multiple ways.... The main two ways being 1) Awkward writing and B) Superfluous characters and storylines causing a total lack of character development.

I read Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler in one day, unless you count the wee hours of this morning as a separate day. It exceeded my expectations with beautiful prose and format play, with a fascinating and subtle character development throughout. I can't wait for Wednesday's #AnthroBookClub to discuss further. 🍅
