August 2024 Book #3

The month of August was not a good reading month for me in terms of how many books I enjoyed. Another unpopular opinion. I just couldn‘t with this book. It was interesting at the beginning but I found it so boring. I really struggled, some parts I care but most of the time not. Sorry for fans of this book. I have two other books by this author that I will try. 2.5⭐️⬇️

Gissy I felt with this book the same way I felt with The Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow😳In my opinion too unnecessarily descriptive, dragging the story but at the same time an interesting story🤷🏽‍♀️ 2mo
Ruthiella This one is super slow. I say that as a huge Sarah Waters fan. More fast paced are Fingersmith and her debut 2mo

5feet.of.fury I bailed on this one, such slow pacing 2mo
Gissy @Ruthiella I own Fingersmith and The Little Stranger which has low rating in GR but the premise sounds interesting. I want to watch the adaption but after I read the book. 2mo
Gissy @5feet.of.fury I was almost on that thought, it was a torture😖 2mo

I'm never satisfied with any Horror or suspense story...it can always be better...but this pretty good

About 1/3 of the way in, nothing has happened & I‘m not finding myself hoping for anything to happen. Might be a slow burn (but too slow for me).
On to the next! maybe whoever is next on the Libby hold list will find it a better fit! #authoramonth

Ruthiella This one is really slow, but next to Fingersmith, it‘s my favorite. 🤩 4mo

I don‘t know where to begin. I‘ll start with, I‘m enjoying it, it‘s an interesting and comforting perspective. It makes me feel MULTIPLE different emotions, experience MANY different thoughts and now I have LOTS of new questions. I‘ve always been afraid of this topic and reading this was my way of trying to get over that fear… this is helping, but I will admit it‘s hard to read after dark 😆. I feel this would be a fun discussion with others 👻📚

I liked this gothic mystery. I predicted a few of the plot points and so the ending only partly came as a surprise. I have been wondering about something while reading the book I'm hiding it as a Spoiler in the comments.

This was as much an impulse read as a book that's been on my TBR for a while, but I'm using it for the Green or Red on the cover prompt for #RushAThonChristmasBingo.

julesG Why does it always have to be "mad" women doing the killing in such gothic tales? Or am I picking the ones with "mad" women only? 11mo

Caroline2 Oh glad you liked it. I‘ve had this sitting in my tbr for agessss. I loved her other books so I must move it up my pile. 👍 11mo

Caroline2 Just read your spoiler… totally agree. 🙄 I was a disappointed with this one, bit cliched and predictable compared to The Corset. 9mo
julesG @Caroline2 Then I'm looking forward to reading The Corset. 9mo
Caroline2 The corset is sooo good! 👍 9mo

I would recommend this for a read even if you don't consider yourself spiritual. The author's takes on history and The Patriarchy are really interesting, and offer a take that I hadn't considered, but makes perfect sense. I found a warm familiarity when reading this, and I imagine others will too. I found I was reading aspects of myself that I hadn't shared and her words gave a sense of forgotten community that was pleasant. Give it a go.

After a long look at my shelves I found that I was in a crime/thriller sort of mood, so do you fancy any of these @Cupcake12 @charl08 ? You don't have to match my mood with your picks & I'll tag the other books in comments so you can read more about them.

Have got plenty of others to chose from if you don't fancy any of these (or my mood - have got other genres to choose!)

charl08 I've not read any of these, so difficult choices. 2y

Went on a local spirit tour. A lot of witch and paranormal activity has been alleged over the years n Whitewater WI, I went to college there and so did John Belushi, fun fact we went to a house that inspired Animal House. #scarathon
