Theme Music: A Novel | T. Marie Vandelly

Pickpick

I‘ve had this one on my radar for quite a while and was excited to finally read it for a TikTok book club coming up! I ended up really enjoying it, even though it took me almost 3 weeks to finish it (it has really long chapters which always slow me down for some reason). Great haunted house vibes with a lot of gore and some twists I didn‘t expect. It also has that wonderful trope of “is our main character crazy or is she being tricked”. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The Sentence | Louise Erdrich

This was my first Louise Erdrich book, I have always been a bit intimidated to read her books though I have always felt I would like them. Her writing in this book was beautiful. In the beginning I was afraid the story was not for me and wasn't sure I really like the main character. As I read on, I was hooked. I have Love Medicine on my shelf and plan to read it before the year is over.

Spooky tales. Perfect for the fall but pretty good right now too 🙂 currently reading the California section. And not to brag or anything but my home state of Alabama has one of the best ghost stories EVER 😬😱 #currentlyreading #nonfiction #supernatural

Ok, late to the party. I‘ve never read any of Erdrich‘s books but I couldn‘t resist ghost haunting a bookstore!

Pickpick

It‘s been a long time since I‘ve read a decent ghost story that made me want to sleep with the lights on! Set in an old Manor House in 1917, this is a creepy, gothic thriller with lots of atmosphere and mystery. I‘d recommend to fans of Stacey Halls, Laura Purcell and Michelle Paver.
(The second half was overly long which took the edge off the suspense - where are all the editors?!! still a cracking good read though!).

TrishB And a gorgeous cover! 3d
LeahBergen Oh, good! I have this waiting on my shelves. 👍 3d

I was hoping for more from this book.
It takes a historical look at one ‘medium‘ in pre-WWII England. While the science is interesting and it‘s unique to see how the paranormal went to more pseudoscience, it was overall bland.

Marjorie is a thirteen-year-old with too much responsibility in the aftermath of her mother‘s death. A ghost, Wendell, helps her keep things together and is a much-needed friend. Really enjoyed this graphic novel. The follow-up, Delicates, is also good.
