The Girls: A Novel | Emma Cline

Our IT Manager just finished this book and gave it 3/5 stars. She said, "If Ann Beattie wrote Helter Skelter, you'd have The Girls. Similar enough to the Manson girls to be disconcertingly inaccurate. The Girls feels like summer. It's hot and sticky and a good read. It's probably more interesting if you're not trying to match the characters to real life."

"Asia Ansari is adorable and I loved this book. I will admit to skimming parts about love in other countries and some of the dull bits. There was an old-fashioned quality to the book that I liked." - Adult Services Librarian

WanderingBookaneer I wrote on my review that I hadn't picked it up because I thought it was a comedian's rantings. I was pleased to see there was social logical research in it. Personally, I enjoyed the love and other countries bit; especially Dubai and Japan. 8y

We're in love with this book!
Our Adult Librarian says: "I LOVED this book! Quite possibly my favorite that I've read this year. I felt like I was visiting this town. I got to know the characters and fell in love. I'm off to read Major Pettigrew's Last Stand!"

Our Adult Librarian gave a very comical and honest review: "What has happened to the close reading of a good editor? This story was good until it became a hot mess. Too much story crammed into too small a space. And whiny characters. Meh."

tnorris I've been hearing the same thing! Tempted to take my name off the wait list at the library... 8y

At times I missed Tricia and our son,Linus,so much I became physically ill. But there is something magical about travel. In the weeks after you come home, the bad parts of a trip fade into the dark corners of your mind, leaving only the sunny days and delicious meals and happy times with new friends
