That Night | Chevy Stevens

Really well done, I finished it in two sittings because I couldn't wait to see the conclusion.

Amazing! I read it all in one day. Great character development and an interesting look into the aftermath of a traumatic experience.

LOVED it.

I found this book to be incredibly hard to read because it was so frustrating to see all the evidence of what was happening and have nobody notice the entire time. Garnett's death was so preventable if even one person had questioned his mother's sick need for attention. Nevertheless, it was very well written, fascinating, and I think important for people to read so that we might as a society spot these monsters more easily.

I am not a football fan, so much so that I had never even heard of Aaron Hernandez, but I loved this book! It was fast-paced, interesting, and made me think about the unique sadness of someone who has an incredible amount of potential and decides to waste it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes true crime, football, or just a good story.

I really enjoyed this book. Well researched, informative, fascinating, and heartbreaking. I was at times devastated, furious, and dumbfounded. It was an excellent read and I would highly recommend it.

Baby Teeth | Zoje Stage
Mehso-so

I was going to give this a pick because, even though I was irritated by some of the characters' behaviors, I did finish it in two days and it kept me wondering. But then I got to the end and I was so mad and bothered by the parents' behavior in the second to last chapter that I couldn't. The story was interesting, but Suzette got on my nerves and mental illness wasn't treated fairly or realistically overall. It was just okay.

After Anna | Lisa Scottoline
Panpan

I did not like this book. I felt like the characters were largely unlikeable and the dialogue was stiff and unnatural, but my biggest complaint would be my inability to suspend disbelief due to the wild inaccuracies relating to the courtroom and overall justice system. I did enjoy the big reveal about Anna near the end but then it was ruined by a rushed, nonsensical, and improbable ending. I think the premise was good but the execution was poor.

I ended up really liking this book! It was a page turner and kept me engaged all throughout the waiting that is jury duty, even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending. It seemed set up to be much more revelational and unique and I felt like the ending was a let down in it's unoriginality. But overall I did enjoy reading it anyway.

I didnt want to read this at first when my roommate recommended it because I honestly hate the topic of money. It gives me stomachaches. But that's exactly why I ended up loving this book! The design was done in a way that made me want to read it, the topics were discussed in interesting and approachable manners, and I actually felt like some things clicked that I wasn't able to get before.

The Captives: A Novel | Debra Jo Immergut

I found the book enjoyable overall, despite my frustration with Frank through most of the second half. It's an interesting meditation on obsession, freedom, and choice.

Whistle in the Dark | Emma Healey
Mehso-so

I had a hard time deciding on a rating. I was really disappointed by the ending. I kept expecting some exciting twist or interesting explanation that never came and the characters weren't very likable. I was annoyed by most of their behavior throughout the book. And yet I did find the story compelling enough to finish in a single day and there were aspects that I identified strongly with in Lana. All in all worth a read but it didn't blow me away.
