I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had ever heard the podcast. I was expecting more serial killer stories. They had some good advice, but as I am not a fan of them before this their personal stories did not resonate.

Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, hosts of the wildly popular My Favorite Murder podcast, share personal stories about what led up to the podcast and how it's affected their lives.

Part laugh-out-loud funny, part fist-pumping "heck yeah!", but mostly just two people talking about their experiences in therapy. I enjoyed their perspectives on victim-blaming and Georgia's love of Ray Bradbury, but it wasn't very engaging to me overall.

Audiocooking. I now will forever associate the voice of Karen Kilgariff with the smell of fresh ginger. Homemade curry paste in the works to make some yellow curry soup with black rice once I acquire some black rice. Also featured: my squash stash.

ImperfectCJ @xicanti It's one I like a lot, although my family aren't as excited about it. It's based on a recipe on the Fitness Blender website, if you're interested in trying it. I just bump up the number of veggies and use my own curry paste instead of store-bought: https://www.fitnessblender.com/articles/yellow-curry-soup-with-black-rice 1w

Well, I got in about ten minutes of listening before my ten-year-old said, "Sorry for interrupting you, Mom. I just love talking to you." And suddenly I couldn't enjoy my audiobook. But I did manage to get a photo of the beautiful persimmons I plan to devour during my reading time this weekend.

Settings You have persimmons... I am ridiculously jealous. 1w
ImperfectCJ @Settings I'm a little jealous of myself, actually. 😆 I love persimmons. We've been getting them in our CSA box. We were supposed to go persimmon picking last weekend but my son had a fever. I'm lobbying to go this weekend, but as the only persimmon fan in the family, the others aren't very motivated. 1w
TheAromaofBooks Sometimes we have to remember that we can always come back to a book, but we can't always come back to a person. Glad you got to spend some time with your little guy. ❤️ 1w

Scochrane26 That‘s so sweet 1w
Andrew65 A healthy snack. 👍 1w
ImperfectCJ @TheAromaofBooks Indeed. It's often easier to immerse myself in reading than to engage with other people, including a young person intent upon quizzing me about WWII, but you're right. Books will wait. 1w
ImperfectCJ @Scochrane26 Right? He tests me at times, but then he comes out with this kind of thing and I melt. 1w
ImperfectCJ @Andrew65 I've been pushing it with sugar lately, so healthy is what's on the menu this weekend. 🙂 1w
Andrew65 @ImperfectCJ I‘m having to avoid sugar so fruit and nuts for me. 1w

Hello! I‘m starting on a trip of reading from a whole bunch of American states. Anyone want to come along on a #bookroadtrip? #Arizona can be our starting point, how about it?

BarbaraBB There is this year‘s challenge: #ReadingUSA2019 in which a few of us have read a book from all states. You can check it out for inspiration! Good luck, it‘s a great trip! 3w

#108 of my year. Haven‘t heard too much about this one, I‘m looking forward to reading it!

Caffeinated_Reader 😂😂😂 I‘m on page 31 and omg it‘s so hilarious! This is the type of laughter I needed to start my day with. 3w
Caffeinated_Reader Hilarious. It‘s definitely the wit and snarky humor that makes me give this 5 stars. I absolutely love the tone of this book. It‘s well strung together and oddly empowering. I really enjoyed thinking about everything that was said and of course laughing my fucking ass off! 3w

As a long-time Murderino, I very much enjoyed this book. It won't be for everyone. I have made some great friends through the community and the podcast has helped a lot of women learn how to stand up for themselves. And learn that we aren't alone in our weirdness. Also pictured: obligatory cat.

I‘ve heard about their podcast, but I haven‘t listened to it. That said, you don‘t have to follow their podcast to enjoy their book. The book is about their personal lives, how to get on in the world, practice self care, cultural and societal issues, eating disorders, listening to your gut instincts, and the difference between politeness and kindness. They‘re advocates for personal safety and inner strength and worth the read.

This book was SO fun to listen to. Some of the chapters were better than others and I found Karen's humor a bit more up my alley but there were some really valuable points in this, told in a funny, self deprecating, feminist way. I had never heard of their podcast and am not a fan of true crime so I probably won't be listening to that but this autobiographical book was right up my alley.

I was soo excited to read this book but once I got it I was anxious it would be a let down.. Im so happy it was better than I had anticipated! 😊 Have you ever read a duel memoir? If not I suggest you start with this one! 💖📖

Loved this memoir! Recently started listening to their Podcast, and being the nosey person I am. I needed to know more about them. The stories of their lives were relatable and teachable. They gave excellent advise based on their lives, that can be used in your own it different situations. Favorite chapter was "Fuck Politeness". Would suggest to pick up, even if you never listened to their podcast

I hadn't heard of Kilgariff, Hardstark, or their podcast before coming across the book. I'm not likely to start following their podcast now (not interested in more true crime in my daily life than we're already experiencing via our government). However, I whizzed through the book today. [It didn't hurt that I had a puzzle to work on, and that I made time for self-care tonight after a brutal day yesterday.]

Final Stats for #24B4Monday: 17 hours!

This is the longest I‘ve read for any readathon! My personal best. 😊 I never seem to make it past the 16 hour mark until this weekend! I could‘ve gone longer but Saturday night was pretty much a wash since we had family over. I think it definitely helped that I mixed up the books with picture books and graphic novels, as well as listening to one on audio. Audio was clutch. 😉

Thank you to the hosts! ♥️

jb72 Awesome job! 4mo
Andrew65 Brilliant, well done on getting your best ever total and breaking through that 16 hour barrier. 👏👏👏🙌🍾🥂🎉🎊🥳 I think varying your books and style of books does help in a Readathon. Most days I read from three or four different style of books, and use a bit of audiobooks for when I get tired. 😊 4mo
