Okay Littens, what do we think of this book? I‘m struggling through, at 60%, and the only thing that keeps me pushing forward is the bookclub discussion we are having in a few days. There is nothing bad about this novel...it‘s just not very engaging either. But maybe I‘m missing something?

Ruthiella I‘ve not read this one, but I wasn‘t impressed with his debut The Rules of Civility. So many readers love his titles, but I don‘t think he‘s for me. 🙂 3y
Bookwormjillk I want to love it but I‘ve bailed 3 times already 3y
JoyNorstrom @Ruthiella yes, I think I‘m in the same boat as you! The characters are quite good, but...nothing. Happens. For 100s of pages. I think it‘s more of a traditional, old fashioned style of book writing and maybe just not a good fit for me either! 3y
JoyNorstrom @Bookwormjillk 3 times! That‘s commitment! What‘s keeping me reading is my friend picked it for this month‘s bookclub. I‘m 2/3rds in and still not sure I‘ll finish by Tuesday 😳. 3y

Loved this book! Highly recommend reading it yourself; tried audio and don‘t recommend. One of the main characters is supposed to have a Scottish accent and it‘s unfortunately not something the reader should have attempted. 😳😬

Quirky little book about an insecure hockey player. An enjoyable read although I would have found it more engaging as a novel instead of short stories. Still, quite fun and the main character is so well written I feel like I know him.

I loved 80% of this book! Such a stunning job at weaving a plot—I‘m impressed with this author. The end is, well, not necessary. Takes away from the overall book in my opinion. Still, I think this is a book I won‘t forget because of its originality.

So glad my Bookclub picked this one. I love how the writer explores the impact of incarceration on various relationships.

Yay! Another reader in the family! So thankful for graphic novels that worked like magic for both my daughter‘s. This youngest one whizzed through #Awkward and is rather enjoying #Brave. What more could a book loving mother ask for?

Three books under the tree and they are perfect for me 😊. Did Santa treat any of you other book lovers this season? What stories were under your tree?

Good story, set in Ontario and New York. It was interesting for me as the protagonist works for a municipal government, which is what I do also. Some of the dilemmas felt freakishly familiar and others—thank goodness!—didn‘t. If you read the book you‘ll know what I‘m talking about 😊😂 I think the author did a good job in weaving the backstory into present day so we understand character motivation.

Just sending these two lovely gems off to my secret Santa partner...if you ever have the chance to join an online book club, do it! I‘ve read lots of books I otherwise would not have heard of, including this Dear Sugar compilation. Such an uplifting read.

Chelsea.Poole I love Dear Sugar! 6y

jenreads7 I joined an online book club a few months ago. It has really stretched my reading life! And now, of course, there‘s Litsy with all the read alongs and challenges. I‘m still learning the ropes! 6y

This recommendation has been sitting by my bedside table for months. I‘m not sure what I was waiting for...perhaps cold weather to match the cover or the perfect space in my tbr pile. ‘Inside‘ is beautifully written, has a cast of captivating characters and a list of unique settings: Iqaluit, Kigali, Montreal, Edinburgh, New York. Two thumbs up for the author‘s ability to weave time and place.

Okay, great book. This one was recommended to me quite a while back. I bought it and it sat on my kindle UNREAD for 2 years. Mistake! I could have read it several times since then. Unique characters, engaging storyline. Readers who enjoyed #EleanorOliphant might love this one too.

Jenny I loved this one too. 6y

I love love love Susin‘s books. Although intended for a younger audience this forty-something reader (😳☺️) was super invested in our scrabble/loner hero and his reformed convict side-kick. Highly recommended for reluctant readers. And moms 😃

Wasn‘t sure what I‘d think of this one, but I‘m loving it! A twitter msg that turns into an ongoing friendship (and maybe more!) paired with a family secret that‘s slowly revealed. I‘m curious to see how this story will wrap up. (And yes, that‘s a lighthouse my youngest daughter painted for me😊)

My long weekend camping read...I‘m enjoying it more than Girl on the Train. Super intriguing 😊

Jenny I want to try this one! 6y
JoyNorstrom @Jenny so far it‘s very engaging; I‘m about half way. She slowly drops clues letting the mystery unfold in a way that keeps me turning pages. 6y
Jenny How are the characters? I couldn‘t stand any of them in Girl on a Train. 6y
JoyNorstrom @Jenny actually I felt the same—especially the protagonist! Really annoying, wasn‘t she? This book has about 7 different POVs plus excerpts from a manuscript one of the characters was supposed to have written. The most annoying is the manuscript. Overall I find several of the characters relatable in some way; a few are off but I think they are supposed to be, if that makes sense. 6y
Jenny Good to know. Thanks and enjoy. 6y

Great book and one I probably wouldn‘t have read if it hadn‘t been recommended. Girls in White Dresses is a series of interlocking short stories; you get to follow a group of women friends through their 20s. They navigate careers, relationships, and families-of-origin as they figure out what it is they want in life. Very relatable!

I had to push through the first 100 pages, but I‘m so glad I did. A coming-of-age story featuring a friendship between a socially awkward kid and a blunt but good-hearted old man.
