karamank I would use this in my classroom as a PR because I think it would be a great way for students to interact as they read the book together and share their favorite places they would like to visit one day to one another. The illustrations are also beautifully done and i‘m sure students will be amazed by them! Grand Canyon by Jason Chin is such a fascinating NF book to introduce children to one of the most amazing landmarks in the world! It also won the Caldecott award! It highlights ESOL strategy # 9 and UDL principle # 9.2.

karamank I would use this book in my classroom as an IR so students can focus on the amazing graphics and absorb the interesting facts independtly. I also think this would be a great opportunity to have students take notes on the facts they thought were the most interesting through out the story. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is one of the most adorable P books I‘ve ever read! It highlights ESOL strategy 7 and UDL principle 1.1.
I would use this book as an AS in my classroom because I think students would really benefit from learning all about the man behind these amazing P books he writes that teach such incredible lessons.

Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is such a classic F book and won the Caldecott Award! It highlights ESOL strategy 2 and UDL principle 5.1. I would use this story in my classroom as a S. I think students would really enjoy bringing this book to life by acting out the story and telling it themselves. The illustrations in this story are so engaging.

The Giver by Lois Lowry is such an incredible SF book and was awarded the Newbery Medal. It highlights ESOL strategy # 2 and UDL principle # 8.3.
I remember being assigned this book to read in school and thought it was very interesting especially how the author wrote it based on her father, who had lost his long term memory.

karamank I remember when I was in elementary school our teacher would read this book out loud to us as we sat and listened together on the carpet. I found this book really fascinating because of how well it described how it was to live in the pioneer days. #lae3414sp19 (edited) 6y

karamank I thought it was really interesting how the characters ate, dressed, and traveled by wagon. I also recently found out that the main character is the author telling the adventures of her and her family, which is really interesting. 6y

karamank In my future classroom, I think it would be really cool to have students dress up as they were living back in the pioneer days and perform a RT! I also think it would be a great idea to have many class discussions about how different our lives are today from how they were back then. (edited) 6y

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is such an amazing HF book and a great way to introduce history to students because it is told through the point of view of a 10 year old Jewish girl who goes undercover to live with her best friends family to protect her from the Nazis. This book won the Newbery Medal. This book highlights ESOL strategies 1, 2, 9, 16 and UDL principles 9.3 and 5.1.

karamank I think what is really amazing with this book is I instantly remembered reading it in school when I was 10 years old. This book really taught me about what the holocaust was truly like because it was told from a little girls perspective. I remember visualizing the story as the little girl told it because her emotions were so real. I felt as if I was there! 6y

I think it is very important students understand how the world once was compared to how it is today. The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is such an engaging B story and would be an awesome way to introduce the beloved Martin Luther King Jr. to students. It was awarded the Caldecott Medal. This book highlights ESOL strategies 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 29, and UDL principles 8.3, 9.3, 1.1, 1.2, and 3.1.

karamank I adored how this story started out as Martin being a young kid and wanting to change the world because he wanted people to be treated equally. I liked how it showed Martin growing up and pursuing his dream of making the world equal. The illustrations were amazing as well and I think students would really benefit a lot from this story. I learned a lot more than I already knew about Martin Luther King Jr. by reading it. 6y

karamank In my future classroom, I would have a discussion about acceptance and what it means to treat everyone equally no matter what before reading the story. On the Moon is an excellent B book for young children to learn about exploring space through a captivating story. This story highlights ESOL strategies 1, 2, 4, 5, 15, and UDL principles 9.3, 1.3, 2.1, and 6.4. I adore how engaging this story is and how it makes learning about being on the moon enjoyable for children by taking them through space through illustrations/real life pictures.

The Three Pigs | David Wiesner

The Three Pigs by David Wiesner is such an incredible TL book that puts a new twist on the original tale of The Three Pigs. David Wiesner won the Caldecott Medal for his creative way of telling the story. This story highlights ESOL strategies 1, 3, 4, 10, 13, and UDL principles 9.2, 9.3, 3.1, and 4.1. I love how David has the pigs enter new fairytale worlds through out the story and has the pigs talk through speech bubbles.

karamank I also think it would be a great idea to read students the classic story of The Three Little Pigs and then read them David Wiesner‘s unique version. The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney is such an adorable TL book and a perfect way to introduce a lesson of kindness, friendship, and sharing in the class room. This story has had the honor of winning the Caldecott medal. This story highlights ESOL strategies 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 16 and UDL principles 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3.

karamank I would have my students sit in a circle as I RA. When I finish I would have them each share a time they really showed their true kindness like the mouse and lion did for each other. karamank I would use the kindness coupons idea in my class room, which has students recieve a kindness award coupon when they show an act of kindness through out the day. This class story is an excellent chance to have students participate in class discussions and teach them how important it is to be kind to one another. #lae3414sp19 (edited) 6y

I am so glad I picked The Crossover for my class reading this semester. It is an amazing RF book about two twin boys who absolutely love basketball. It also won the Newbury Medal and Coretta Scott King honor award(s). The Crossover highlights ESOL strategies 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 16, and UDL principles 9.2, 9.3, and 2.1.

karamank This book includes poetry, hip-hop, jazz, and so many life lessons. There is lots of new vocab words included in this novel. This book would be great in a 6-12th grade classroom. Students will fall in love with reading once they start this sweet and uniquely written novel. I would use this book in my classroom as a RA. I think it would be so exciting to read this book to my students. 6y

Mmw2478 Students in the 5th grade really love this book, especially if you let them collaborate and do the beats on the desks with their pencils, which is typically annoying and not allowed, but makes it effective in this scenario. 6y

A Light In the Attic by Shel Silverstein is an amazing P book. A Light In the Attic highlights ESOL strategies 4, 5, 6, 8, and 12. It also highlights UDL principles 1.1, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, and 6.2. Shel Silverstein has earned his place on the New York Times Best Sellers list with this incredible book. This books has a series of different poems that include many different characters that will leave you wondering.

karamank The characters names are so creative and funny, which are bound to make your classroom burst in hysterics. Some of the names include Backward Bill and Sour Face Ann. Each character has their own poem that makes an interesting story for them through out the book. 6y

Wishtree by Katherine Applegate is an incredibile RF story, in which a tree named Red tells the story through witnessing what goes on in a suburban neighborhood. Wishtree highlights ESOL strategies 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 44, and 50. It also highlight UDL principles 9.3, 2.1, and 1.3.

It also helps students understand the main characters point of view and identify conflicts through out the story. I adore how this story is told from a trees point of view. karamank This book would be perfect to use in an elementary classroom as students look through the main character, Cjs point of view about riding the bus and the questions he asks his grandma about the world around him. Cjs grandma always responds very positively to his questions and helps Cj realize he‘s got everything he already needs right around him. 6y

karamank This book teaches students a lot of realistic life lessons. Students will learn to understand the world from a characters point of view, identify conflicts through out the story, and understand the authors main message of being grateful for what you have around you, seeing beauty in unexpected places, and the joy of giving. Wonder | R. J. Palacio

Wonder by RJ Palacio is by far one of the best RF books i‘ve read about courage, kindness, and acceptance. Wonder highlights ESOL strategies 2,3, 4, 5, 10, 44, and 50. This wonderful story also highlights UDL principles 9.2, 3.2, and 6.2. Students will learn how important it is to be kind, accept one another, and not to judge a book by it‘s cover. There are a variety of new vocabulary, quotes, and phrases used through out the book as well.

karamank This book will have you and your students look from a whole new perspective as you see what it is like to be bullied through out school through the eyes of the main character, Auggie because of a deformity he was born with. Wonder is a great book to use in the classroom to prevent bullying and will teach students many eye opening lessons they can apply to their daily lives. Edenmonet I haven‘t read Wonder, but it sounds like a great book! It‘s seems like great book for students to read because it talks about acceptance of all and kindness. I really liked the lesson plan idea of writing questions on a beach ball and throwing it around for students to answer questions. 6y

This book introduces many topics to students such as persuasive writing, opinions, reasoning, sarcasm, colors, humor, feelings, summarizing, new vocabulary, and letter writing to students!
