Jonas the main character learned from a wise old man the receiver who transmits memories of the past calling him the giver. Great for grades 6-12th. #UCFWaltersLit

lburgos9 @lizzie0922 I remember reading this book in middle school but at the time I didn‘t realize how respected this book was so I treated it like any other book. I read it again a couple of years ago and I realized why many people talk about this book. #UCFWalterslit (edited) 7y

Kirsten.Pacheco This is a great book to teach kids to be themselves and do what they like no matter what other kids have to say about those likes or them! Not being yourself in order to please others comes with downfalls, like the stripes. 7y

This realistic fiction is about a little raccoon on his first day at school and missing his mom. Everytime Chester misses his mom he puts his hand on his cheek where his mother kissed it so that way he knows she‘s with him. This is a great book to help students facing the first days of kindergarten, first grade or any other separations. #UCFWaltersLit

lburgos9 @lizzie0922 Thank you for posting this book. I feel like there‘s not enough books on this issue. Some kids go through really bad separation anxiety and books like this can help comfort them a bit. I also like the link to the lesson plan you put. The lesson plan with drawing your hand on the board is simple but effective. #UCFWalterslit (edited) 7y

Brittney3 @lizzie0922 I️ never read this book but it looks like it may be a good read. I️ glanced at the website and it looks like this book would be good to work with for a 4th or 5th grade class pertaining to civil rights. Interesting! 7y
Seans_h @lizzie0922 I think this book looks like a good read for 6-12 students because you can take an activity in any direction. For the story to focus on creating a movement against racism and discrimination, that is a problem we still face today and can be discussed in the classroom. Haven‘t read the book but would looks interesting. #UCFWaltersLit 7y

Seans_h @lizzie0922 I have glanced through this book before and watched the movie and think that it should be included in the classroom for older students. Although it is a science fiction, if it is something students are interested by, they should be able to read it during their free time. I love this book and would recommend! #UCFWaltersLit 7y

marissa.s @lizzie0922 I absolutely LOVE this book series! For me, this book took me a while to get into because I feel as though the beginning is so boring, but as soon as you hit chapter 5, it's the most interesting book out there! Thanks for sharing, this really makes me want to re-read this series!!! #UCFWalterslit 7y

Seans_h @lizzie0922 Rapunzel is a classic that I feel should be introduced to children sometime in elementary school. I‘m really interested by the link attached because I wouldn‘t be able to think of activities that go in depth about Rapunzel. I find that there are cooperative/ art activities involved that I‘m sure students would love. #UCFWaltersLit 7y

This graphic novel El Deafo by Cece Bell is a autobiographical about a young girl named Cece who becomes deaf. This story follows Cece through her school life and social life as she struggles to fit in with her hearing box. I absolutely loved this graphic novel and felt that many kids could relate to what Cece was going through as she was trying to fit in. #UCFWaltersLit
