My Two Border Towns | David Bowles

My Two Border Towns is a Tomas Rivera Award winner. It is a children's literature fiction book and was published in 2021. It is about a son and his dad and their weekend ritual. It is a great picture of what it is like to be living by the U.S. and Mexico boarder. I think this would be a great read aloud for any age group and it has such a important reality of some peoples lives around that area. I would like to read this to my class one day.

Malala: Activist for Girls Education by Raphaële Frier is a childrens book biography that was published in 2015. This book is a Mildred Batchelder Award Book winner. It is about a woman named Malala who stood up to the taliban at 15 years old and got shot. She wanted to fight for womens right for education and became such an amazing influence on other women. This would be a great book to read in any classroom and it has such a powerful message.

Honeybee: The Busy Life of Apis Mellifera by Candace Fleming is a Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award winner that was published in 2020 and is a children's non-fiction literature book. It is about a honeybee and their life inside a hive and the things one does to protect and contribute to their hive. I think this is a great non-fiction book that any grade level would enjoy to read.

It is about a man named William Still and talks about his life story and the impact he made during a horrible time in America. I think this book would be great to read to upper age elementary because it has a lot of reading but i think it is an awesome book and would love to have it.

This is about a girl who finds the courage to share her story and even though she is different then everyone else, the world creates a place for each and everyone that they deserve. They call it the day you begin because you don't start living until then. I love this book and think everyone should read it.

Where the Heart Is by Jo Knowles is a Whippoorwill Book Award winner that is a fiction novel and was published in 2019. This is about a 13 year old who is trying to find who they are and someone in their family recently lost their job so they are in a financial crisis. I think this would be a great book for upper elementary school students to read and some may be able to relate to this book. It seems to have a great message.

It is about a bunch of residents in an apartment and it is so hot the moon melts. Grandma collects the drops into a bucket and freezes them into moon pops. Everyones power went out from all the AC units and fans and needed light. She gave out the moon pops and everyone. Later someone else shows up...

Dig by A. S. King is Michael L. Printz award winner. It is a young adult fiction book that was published in 2019. It is about a family who has gotten wealthy from trading in their potato farm for real estate development. All of their children leave the house and dont come back to visit anymore. I think this would be an interesting read for young adults.

Fry Bread by Kevin Noble is a fiction children's book that was published in 2019. It won the American Indian Youth Literature Award. It is about fry bread which is a flat dough bread that is fried in oil, shortening or lard which is a tradition to the Navajo people. This is a great book for any elementary age and i would love to read it to my class.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han is a Asian/Pacific American Awards for literature winner that was published in 2014. It is a teen romantic comedy novel. It is about a teen who writes love letters to the boys she's loved before and somehow it reaches the boys who she wrote them about. This is an awesome teen book that is sweet and funny.

Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson is a historical fiction novel that was published in 2008 and is a Scott O‘Dell Award Book winner. It is about a 13-year-old Isabel who is an African American slave trying to fight for her and her sisters freedom during the American Revolutionary War. I think this could be a good novel for higher grades.

Dave the Potter is a biography by Laban Carrick Hill published in 2010. This is a Coretta Scott King Author Award Book. It is about a man named David Drake who was an enslaved potter in South Carolina. He sees the good in things that others don't like dirt and makes beautiful things from it. I think this would be a great book for any age.

This is a children's literature biography published in 2011 that won the Golden Kite Award. This is a book about the man who started the Macys thanksgiving parade and I thought it is a great book. It is interesting to learn about how it started because it is a lot of peoples tradition to watch every year and i think it is an appropriate book for any elementary age level.

A Plump and Perky Turkey | Teresa Bateman, Jeff Shelly

This book is a childrens fiction book that was published in 2001. It is about a town that does not have a turkey for their thanksgiving so they go to find one by saying they need a plump and perky turkey to model for their art contest. The turkey ends up out smarting them and the people never get their turkey. The students in my classroom thought it was funny but i prefer not to do anything turkey related for thanksgiving.

This is a fiction children's book that was published in 1997. It is about an old lady who is swallowing all these food and things at thanksgiving. She eventually eats so much that she becomes a ballon at the Macys parade. The students seemed to find it funny and we were able to do a fun sequencing project afterwords. I think this is a book for younger students and the older students might not find it entertaining as the younger ones.

This is a great picture book that is a creative nonfiction and was just published in 2022. It is about the Wamoanoag people and their experiences when colonists arrived to America. I think it is a hard read but i think students would be up for the challenge. I liked how it showed a real point of view of first peoples and i think this is so important to teach students.

Shark Lady is a Non fiction picture book that was published in 2017. This book is about a scientist named Eugenie who was determined to change peoples minds about sharks and she showed how you can train sharks. I think this is a great story to read to all ages and is a good representation of women in science and i love the illustration.

Esperanza Rising | Pam Munoz Ryan

This book is a historical fiction and was published in 2000 and is a Pura Belpre award winner. It is about a woman who has a comfortable life but then has to leave everything and move to California. It was during the great depression and she has to work on a farm and tells how hard it is for people of color in America. I would read this to my class if it is age appropriate because i think it would be good to have them be aware of this.

This book won several awards, is a fiction children literature book, and was published in 2019. It is about two sisters and one of them is her first day to first wear a hijab. She gets laughed at and the younger sister talks about how great it is and sticks up for her sister. I would love to use this at any time in my classroom and at any age. I think it is a great story that shows being proud of who you are.

This book was published in 2018 and is a Schneider Family Book Award about a girl Jessica who is an amputee and she gets a rescue dog named rescue. They both find that they save each other and make each other happy. I loved this book and would 100 percent read this to my student of any age. I think this is a great read aloud and is a heart warming story. This book is a fiction book but is also based off a true story.

Owl Moon is a Caldecott winner about a child and their father going owling. They experience a quiet journey through the snowy woods to try and find an owl. They stay trying to find one and eventually one flies up to them. This would be a great book to read to students of all ages because it is so calming and interesting. This book is an adventure fiction that was published in 1987.

This book was published in 1973 and is a great fantasy book. It is about a boarding house that houses a wizard. He keeps causing issues in the house and the guest keep complaining. Mrs. Beggs casts her own spell to banish him. Then the guests are bored and something else shows up. I think this is a fun book to read to older kids around halloween time and get their imaginations going.

Pumpkin Soup is a Kate Greenaway Medal winner. This book is about animals that are making pumpkin soup. The duck wanted to help stir the soup but they didnt let him help. The duck was upset so he said he was not coming back. The duck didnt come back the next day and the pumpkin soup did not taste good. They missed their friend the duck and went searching for him. I think this is a great book about friendship and sharing.

He questioned his teacher one day about the meaning of a word and then decided to make his own word. He named a pen frindle to use at school with his friends. He was told he couldn't use that word. I think this is a good chapter book to read to a classroom.

King and King is by Linda De Haan is a story about a prince trying to find someone to marry. His mother the queen wants him to find a princess. Many princesses show up to the castle and he isnt interested until there is a prince. The prince marries the other prince and they become king and king. This is a book i would read to my classroom and give a chance to talk about family dynamics and bring more diverse books into my classroom.

Beware of the Frog by William Bee is a great fairytale story to read to students. It is about an old lady who lives by scary woods and some monsters come and try to steal things from her and eat her. She has a tiny frog who is her protector. The ending has a turn of events. It is a fun story that you can use different voices for and i believe any level of students would like this story.

Julian Is a Mermaid by Jessica Love is a Stonewall Award winner published in 2018. This book is about a child named Julian who wants to be a Mermaid. Their Abuela saw Julian dressed as a mermaid and decided to take them somewhere. Abuela took them to a place that had so many other people dressed as mermaids. This shows how Abuela is supportive of Julian. I think this is a great book to share in a classroom.

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White is a Newbery Medal winner published in 1953. It is about a girl who meets a runt pig and saves him from being butchered. She puts him at a farm where the pig Wilbur meets a spider named Charlotte. Charlotte is the glue of the farm and teaches the whole barn life lessons. This is a great book to read in a classroom, it is fun with the different animals and teaches great lessons.

When Aidan Became a Brother by Kyle Lukoff is a Stonewall Book Award. Aidan was born with a girl name and girl clothes. He never felt happy in his room and with his name. He was able to be himself and wear boy clothes and changed his name. His parents were very accepting. Aidans mom found out she was having a baby. They learned from Aidan to let the baby decide their gender and they picked gender neutral things for the baby.

This book is a Theador Seuss Geisel Honor Honor book. Published in 2011. Its about a bear that lost his hat and he goes around asking other animals if they have seen his hat. A rabbit is wearing his hat and acts guilty but says its not the bears hat. The bear then remembers he saw the hat and got it back from the bunny. Someone asked if the bear saw the bunny in the hat and he says no and acts guilty like the bunny.

Its such a fun way to read a book because it is in the crayons perspective of why they have hard “lives“ to a student who writes with them. This may be a fun book to make kids laugh and enjoy a different way to read.

Millions of Cats | Wanda Gag

This book is a Newbery Award winner published in 1928. It is about an old man and old woman who want a cat and the old man cant decide so he brings back millions of cats. Eventually there is one left and it becomes one that they bring home. I would read this to my students still because it is a cute book and it is cool that it is so old. I think they could learn indecisiveness in this book or even use it in math when learning place values.

It shows the effects on teamwork and friendships and how they effected their audience. This picture book was written and illustrated by Peggy Rathmann. It was awarded the Caldecott Award for its amazing illustrations. This is a great fiction children's....
