This story received the “Golden Kite Award“ and is definitely a story I would incorporate into my classroom library. The moral of the story is to remind children who are marginalized that they matter and will always matter. This story was empowering and made me hopeful for future generations.

Golden Kite Award - I think this book does a great of getting through to children and letting them know in their “terms” that THEY MATTER. I feel like the target audience here is towards people that feel insignificant & this book is here to help remind them and boost them to know that they matter and empower them to keep going. — Published on October 6th, 2020

I loved this #PictureBook as it inspires young children to never give up hope. Even when facing difficulties, remember those who came before and rose to do great things. Essentially, you matter. The illustrations help evoke the text. So beautiful! Letter A #BBRC

DrSpalding Just by looking at the front cover of this book you know it is not science fiction. This is realistic fiction (based in truth) at its very best! Scholastic is a high-quality resource that you should continue to use in the future. Again the universal design principle including the verbiage and decimal is appropriate however you are missing the English learner strategies. 3y

“All Because You Matter” by Tami Charles and illustrated by Bryan Collier

Golden Kite Award

This book is a must read for elementary classrooms this year and always. Addressing difficult topics like equality movements, social justice, and systematic racism can be incredibly difficult to navigate as a teacher, but the realities of the world do not go unnoticed by children. This quality resource helps address these topics.

ToddSalerno Calls to action, writing prompts, critical thinking leveled questions, and how to discuss racism are all jam packed in this educators guide. A complete resource to navigate.

Mmurphy I would use this as an AS to optimize the relevance, value, and authenticity of this story (7.2)UDL. I would personally use this to connect to the people around us who have created incredible things and highlight important things that we should care and learn about.

For my EL‘s I would have them work in pairs to study this author with a online scavenger hunt so they are able to work together to achieve the lesson goal (32.).

Mmurphy For this scavenger hunt I would use the authors website: https://tamiwrites.com/ 3y
AlexRobinson GREAT choice and even better strategy to use! Author studies with books pertaining to diversity and inclusion I always think are best! Being able to understand the passion and story behind the author as to why they wrote such a profoundly insightful book and what the message means to them adds to the meaning of the text for the audience. An online scavenger hunt is an incredible tool to dive into the authors life- love it! 3y

#InspiredNewYear Day 8: I find picturebooks like this #charismatic, riveting, and much-needed. Rather than ending up as a superficial, pat-in-the-back, hollow motivational message – both author and illustrator foregrounded the uplifting message as one that is inextricably woven into a history of marginalization and continuous oppression. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-mRS

TheKidUpstairs Any picture book that inspires and educates without pandering is a must read! Beautiful illustrations 3y
