I just finished the series. The first and third book were very fast paced, but the second one felt slow. It definitely was meant to set up for the ending. Knowing this world will be expanded in other books makes me excited for them.

I just read both in this duology (2nd: Drowned Country). I liked the stories, but they were way too short. I wish there had been more character and world development. Both are barely 100 pages if you are looking for a quick interesting read.

Avatar is my guilty pleasure, so when I saw this I had to check it out. It's decent book that stays true to the world. I like the rebel side of Kyoshi compared to the idolized other avatars.

I liked the first book better. I feel like this book was setting the scene for what I think will be the next and last book. Still worth it just felt like some stuff was forced.

Wow, such a well-written story! Very sad ending but the narrator helps prepare you for it. I feel like I haven't read many books from the point of view of German living in Nazi Germany, so this was refreshing take.

It took some time to get into but about a fourth of the way through it picked up a bit more. It was an unexpected who done it. Very enjoyable read after a stressful holiday weekend.

I think if I hadn't been on such a YA binge I would like this book a bit more. I definitely would recommend it though to all.

Very fast pace book. I like how we jumped right into the characters and the plot. Can't wait to read Crooked Kingdom.

I read this in high school and remembered loving it. Could not resist reading it again when I saw it. Loved how you feel like you are in this magical world that is set in real northern Europe

I just devoured this book. Super easy read and quick-paced. Would have read it all in one day if I didn't value my sleep so much. Cannot wait to read the next in the series.

Okay I only got halfway through and I could not finish it. I do not understand why in 2020 we still have the whole ”capture turn lover” trope. He can say he was saving her or bringing her to where she belongs all he wants, but this love interest lied for 100 years about the true nature of his relationship to her and it's messed up guys.

Started this today. It has a very quick start, but it's kind of all over the place with building the world. We will see how it goes.

This is another one of those books that left me in a reader‘s hangover state. Being from the south and working in a low socioeconomic community I could see this happening to one of my students. So beautiful all the way around.

Love love! I related to the main character so much. I am usually a slow reader but I zipped through this book.

I loved the twist in the end! I figured it out right as it was happening. Such a beautiful and somewhat heartbreaking story.

Overall, just a fun suspense. Very interesting premise. Ending a bit predictable, but there were still some surprises!

There was just so much going on. A part of me wants to try and reread it again because Essex Serpent was so good! The flipping back and forth from the journal and third person I found unnecessary and the part about him using the other gentleman stuff. Felt weird

All I can say is I listen to the book and thought the audio gave out and dug out my print copy. I was so upset to find out it just ended like that!

I can‘t explain how much I loved this book. It is one I could read several times and still never get tired of it. It has a little suspense while exploring humanity a bit. I love back and forth from present to past. You just have to read it to understand. Beautiful book from cover to text.

I heard a lot of good things, but I felt like I was on a lazy river. Nothing super exciting or suspenseful happened that wasn‘t predictable. The narrator was super soothing so I often fell asleep to it and had to re-listen a lot at the end. I love mythology so it still kept my interest seeing the take on some of these well know characters.
