Winter 1945. WWII. Four refugees. Four stories.

Each one born of a different homeland; each one hunted, and haunted, by tragedy, lies, war. As thousands desperately flock to the coast in the midst of a Soviet advance, four paths converge, vying for passage aboard the Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship that promises safety and freedom. But not all promises can be kept . . .

1932, Minnesota—the Lincoln School is a pitiless place where hundreds of Native American children, forcibly separated from their parents, are sent to be educated. It is also home to an orphan named Odie O‘Banion, a lively boy whose exploits earn him the superintendent‘s wrath. Forced to flee, he and his brother Albert, their best friend Mose, and a brokenhearted little girl named Emmy steal away in a canoe, heading for the mighty Mississippi

A must read! So eye opening. I cried multiple different times. A story about two women....Mariam is an illegitimate child, and suffers from both the stigma surrounding her birth along with the abuse she faces throughout her marriage. Laila, born a generation later, is comparatively privileged during her youth until their lives intersect and she is also forced to accept a marriage proposal from Rasheed, Mariam's husband.

Louise_Lulu Lovely review, it's one of my faves this year 5y

This book was about a middle aged over weight man and his adventure with a very small dog as they discover the white mountains in New Hampshire. It‘s a fun read, especially if you know the white mountains!

I liked this book. We don‘t realize the importance of education until we see people who had to grow up without it - one of the things I liked best about this book was how OPEN and HONEST the author was about her experiences

From a dogs perspective. I was reminded how important it is to communicate with our loved ones, something so simple that I easily take for granted. Good book, yes I cried!

Encouraging, funny, and totally relatable! Pushed the “average joe” runner like myself to realize the purpose and power of running. Definitely recommend to people who are thinking about joining the running community or to any runner who is looking for a light, funny read 👍🏼

Typical NS romance... easy read and helped me get back into reading after constantly letting myself get dragged into Netflix rather then picking up a book
