Warleggan
Warleggan: A Novel of Cornwall 1792-1793 | Winston Graham
Warleggan is the fourth novel in Winston Graham's sweeping series of Cornwall, Poldark.Cornwall 1792. Ross plunges into a highly speculative mining venture which threatens not only his family's financial security but also his turbulent marriage to Demelza. When Ross and Elizabeth's old attraction rekindles itself, Demelza retaliates by becoming dangerously involved with a handsome Scottish cavalry officer. With bankruptcy an increasingly real possibility, the Poldarks seem to be facing disaster on all fronts. 'From the incomparable Winston Graham... who has everything that everyone else has, then a whole lot more.' Guardian

Are we allowed to change our list once started #14books14weeks2023? Every time I pick up one of these Poldark novels I am reminded why they are beloved. Quality writing, likes le characters facing universal hardships with dignity, and a story that just Carrie‘s you 100 pages in a blink. Now I want to spend the rest of the list finishing this whole series and put off the little bit of this and that approach I started with! #serieslove23

PaperbackPirate I have the same question! 😅 2y

I am excited for #serieslove2023 as these series have been half done on my shelves for sometime! Had them on my 2023 TBR radar but this will help me stick to it and not feel like I am missing out on other options. Poldark, Officer Bruno, Department Q, and my “get out of a reading slump” standby sue Grafton‘s alphabet

Andrew65 Great choices, I really need to get back to the Poldark Series - I‘ve read the first 3. Good luck 😁 2y
TheSpineView Like Andrew, I have started the Poldark series. I have read the first two books and already own the books 3 and 4. I should try to read at least the ones I own. Hope you get to all these. 📚📚📚 2y
kspenmoll I so enjoyed the Bruno series!!! Great choice! 2y

CBee @Sapphire do you like the Department Q books? They seem like something I‘d enjoy! 2y
Sapphire @CBee I love them. The Marco effect was a bit of a slog, as it redirected characters but it‘s a series where you really end up caring about them. It‘s not cozy though. The characters are all flawed. There is quite a bit of humor at their expense and the investigations can be a bit gruesome. But they are engrossing and you learn about that regio 2y
Sapphire When the sept Q books came out I thought it was just publishing playing on the stieg larson girl with the dragon tattoo hysteria. But they are really good 2y
CBee @Sapphire sounds like I‘d like them! 👍🏻 2y

Packed with adventure and intrigue, this is the fastest-paced Poldark novel so far.

It also has some disquieting scenes which force the reader to re-evaluate their sympathies towards or away from the main characters. Utterly engrossing. 🖤

2 Poldark Books off my shelf & in my truck to donate!
I found Warleggan problematic. It was originally published in 1953 & it shows. The whole she said no but she means yes attitude. The its not my fault, I couldn't help myself mindset of men. Yes I realize setting is 1793 but IMHO it smacks of Bad Romance Trope. #mounttbr

Poldark again; for #mounttbr. Did finally get a couple chapters in last night. Every Day, Baker's Secret, & Shetland #7 are #libraryholds - hopefully in soon. Steampunk Darcy is #blameLitsy. It & Rejected Writer's are #blamekindleunlimited 2months for .99cents Special. Invisible Library - CD #inmytruck. After last month's #paperbackstack had to invoke #fluffrule & #readserious - Cosmo #intheglasshouse. #marchtbr 🤓 #readingresolutions @Jess7

Might be a bit over zealous on the #poldark but a friend gave me the next 9 😯 books in the series. They've got to go! Taking up way to much space on my shelf. #MountTBR #febuarytbr #readingresolutions @jess7

DivineDiana I had no idea! How many are there? 7y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana 12! I've read first 3. 7y
DivineDiana @missnavigation Oh my! Are you watching the TV show? 7y

Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana I have been. Although it's kind of becoming 'Good Lord. What else can happen to these people.' 7y
DivineDiana I‘m just wondering if the books coordinate with the Seasons?!? So, we are looking at possibly 12 seasons if it keeps getting renewed?!? 7y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana Not sure. Blurb for Book 4 mentions Demelza and Ross both having other love interests. Which is kinda where we were at end of Season 3 7y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana Poldark doesn't stay as much as Outlander does. Now if you had asked difference between Season 3 and Voyager Book. I could write a dissertation. 😉 7y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana ^stay with me. @Litsy needs an edit for comments. 7y

WWDD?

What Would Demelza Do?

😃

SaraFair Love it. I need to read these! Are lots of details left out by the miniseries? 7y
Libby1 @SaraFair - the miniseries is remarkably close to the books. Of course there are some differences - especially in the appearance of some characters. The quality of the storytelling is such that even though I know what is going to happen I still devour the books! I will be caught up with the series soon. 7y

I am beginning to adore this series.

Author Winston Graham called this series "the story of a marriage". It is. There is no false-feeling romance. No easy answers. But it is still, at heart, about love.

I'm going straight on to book 5, The Black Moon. Soon I will have caught up with the TV series!

CareBear what's the title of the first one? 7y
Libby1 Hi, @CareBear ! The first is called Ross Poldark. 7y

Back to Cornwall with the Poldarks.

Don't do it, Ross. Don't do it.

CoffeeAndABook Oh I know what you mean! I've felt that way all through the Poldark books I've read!!! Hard to bear - but worth it!! 7y
Libby1 @CoffeeAndABook - oh, I agree. Completely worth it. I still haven't caught up with what I've seen in the mini-series yet. It's a testament to his skill as a storyteller that even though I know what's going to happen, I'm still completely enthralled. 7y
Texreader Ooh another series that sounds good! Where do I start? 7y
Libby1 Sorry for the delayed reply, @Texreader . The first book in the series is called Ross Poldark. I'm loving them! 7y

"I've got to be up early tomorrow," I said. I'll get an early night," I said. "I won't read in bed tonight," I said....Even Tara is judging me! It's not MY fault that the fourth book in the Poldark saga has suddenly kicked up the plot, pacing and suspense by an enormous degree!! I can't be held accountable for breaking such rash promises when the loves, lives and livelihoods of fictional characters are at stake! #catsoflitsy

Just came in for me at the library. I can only imagine what might happen in this book (and the back cover blurb worries me about Ross making a stupid decision...).
