A Week in Paris
A Week in Paris | Rachel Hore
Recommended by Good Housekeeping. The streets of Paris hide a dark past September, 1937. Kitty Travers enrols at the Conservatoire on the banks of the Seine to pursue her dream of becoming a concert pianist. But then war breaks out and the city of light falls into shadow. Nearly twenty-five years later, Fay Knox, a talented young violinist, visits Paris on tour with her orchestra. She barely knows the city, so why does it feel so familiar? Soon touches of memory become something stronger, and she realises her connection with these streets runs deeper than she ever expected. As Fay traces the past, with only an address in an old rucksack to help her, she discovers dark secrets hidden years ago, secrets that cause her to question who she is and where she belongs A compelling story of war, secrets, family and enduring love. Praise for A Week in Paris: 'A tour de force. Rachel's Paris is rich, romantic, exotic and mysterious' Judy Finnigan 'An elegiac tale of wartime love and secrets' Telegraph 'A richly emotional story, suspenseful and romantic, but unflinching in its portrayal of the dreadful reality and legacy of war' Book of the Week, Sunday Mirror

Spent the afternoon in the garden pretending we were on holiday....

This was a fairly typical dual-timeline book, set in Paris during WWII and then in the late 1950s. It wasn‘t amazing or breathtaking, but it was a great what I would call ‘ beach read‘. 😁 🏖

Oh and it was *nearly* 5 o‘clock by the time the sangria made an appearance - honest! 🤪

Lcsmcat It was 5:00 somewhere. 5y

We were going to have a week in Paris this year but then we decided it'd be so much more fun to buy a house instead. Hmph.

#TBRtemptation post! A historical drama spanning 2 generational. 1961, Fay Knox, born the day WWII broke out, is on tour in Paris with her orchestra. She was told her father died in a London air raid & their house has been destroyed. An address on old luggage leads to a different past. Flashback to Paris 1937: Fay's parents, Eugene & Kitty, meet, marry, & wed right before Germany defeats France. And the past unwinds. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

tricours Hore means whore in Norwegian. That cover confused me for a second. 8y

A story of resistance, collaboration, betrayal, fidelity, love both lost and found. Loyalties are tested during war can things be easily forgiven during times of war as easily as they can be forgiven during peacetime? Is time a great healer?

This was an excellent read-the narrative was seamlessly delivered through several different narrators giving first hand feelings to the story being told –past and present are linked up seamlessly.
