The Thorn of Emberlain
The Thorn of Emberlain | Scott Lynch
With 50,000 copies sold of The Republic of Thieves and with praise from the likes of Joe Abercrombie and George RR Martin the saga of the Gentleman Bastard has become a favourite and key part of the fantasy landscape. And now Locke Lamora, thief, con-man, pirate, political deceiver must become a soldier.A new chapter for Locke and Jean and finally the war that has been brewing in the Kingdom of the Marrows flares up and threatens to capture all in its flames. And all the while Locke must try to deal with the disturbing rumours about his past revealed in The Republic of Thieves. Fighting a war when you don't know the truth of right and wrong is one thing. Fighting a war when you don't know the truth of yourself is quite another. Particularly when you've never been that good with a sword anyway...

Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen (portrayed in my #headcasting by Heath Ledger and Brendan Gleeson) are the #BestBookFriendship (remember what happened with the poison?) and book 4 of the Gentleman Bastards Sequence, The Thorn of Emberlain, is my #MostAnticipated of whatever year it ends up coming out.

#Riotgrams #ReadingResolutions

vivastory I've only read the first one, but I loved it. Need to check out the others. 6y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @vivastory They are not quite as perfect as the first, but the worst complaint I have is they both could be about 100 pages shorter to make the pacing a little more snappy. In book 2 the boys get into piracy and in book 3 they get into politics. 6y
KimM Great series 6y

#JingleShelves #MostAnticipated2018

Small selection of some of my most anticipated for 2018. There's no cover yet for the new Tad Williams or Neil Gaiman books yet, otherwise you bet your biscuits I'd have added them above.

Also - there's a ton I probably forgot or don't know about yet. 🤔

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love it!! “You bet your biscuits!” Are you from the south too?! 😊 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm not, no. Canadian actually. Currently covered in snow. I've just always liked that expression! And who doesn't like biscuits. 👍😅 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @GrilledCheeseSamurai you‘re right!!! I always say “done like a pan of biscuits!” 🤣😂 6y

I wait on Scott Lynch to write the Gentlemen Bastards books like some people wait on George R. R. Martin to write A Song of Ice and Fire books. I am #eagerlyawaiting book 4 where Locke and Jean are headed up north to Emberlain to see if they can profit from the coming war. #aprilamazingreads

I will say that after 3 amazing covers this one is just kind of blah.

Soubhiville I had no idea a fourth book was imminent! I've only read the first two... I had the third in my hand at a bookstore earlier this week, but exercised restraint. I loved red seas though, excellent book! 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Soubhiville The pacing of book 3 felt a little wonky, but it really dug into some backstory. As high quality as the other two. 7y
Dragon Yay! I have been saving book 3 , now that I know there will be a fourth book I can read the third one 😀👍🏼 7y
JazzFeathers Really, you don't like the cover? I find it quite stricking, with that red flag bellowing 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @JazzFeathers I think my issue is the fact that the other three covers really played up the otherworldly setting. This could just be any medieval story. 7y
