Mehso-so

I read this one for my school‘s #BattleOfTheBooks . It was fine. Nothing special. I didn‘t really understand most of the MC‘s decisions. I. Never really got into this. I read this book because the MC is a newsie, and Newsies is one of my all time favorite musicals, but there was hardly any. newsie-ing. There were maybe 3 paper hawking scenes and they all had the exact same dialogue. 3⭐️

megnews It‘s been awhile since I read this but I read it for the same reason as you and recall feeling similarly. 3y

Pickpick

This was a really good book. Had a hard time putting it down. Very well written, and I loved the characters.

#bookmail I have always loved AVI books. I have read most of his stuff from my childhood but none of his newer stuff. I am thinking of making next year an Avi reading challenge year. The only bad thing. The author isn't very nice. I've met him a few times, and lived a few blocks from him years ago. He was never pleasant. It was just so odd for the man that set my childhood imagination on fire. I memories died a little bit the first time.

LauraJ How disappointing! 7y
MKbookworm That is disappointing to hear. I loved his books growing up. It always makes me a bit sad when I hear about an actor or writer that I enjoy or who has been an important part of my life not being the person I expect them to be. 7y
Texreader I've enjoyed the books I've read by him. Too bad about his personality. 7y
Cortg Disappointing, for sure but a reminder that not everything is rainbows and unicorns. I wouldn't dwell too much on the author himself and just enjoy his books. 7y
readinginthedark Oh no! He was so nice to my nephew when they met. 😕 7y

I read this with a group of Homeschool students learning about child labor. I thought it was a well written book, quick to read and a lot to discuss. I also love Avi. Definitely recommend for school age but even enjoyed myself. (Any other Homeschoolers out there?)

minkyb I remember reading Avi with my kids. 8y
