I never bail but I‘m going to this time. It just isn‘t what I want to read right now.

Anyone ever read this? I received it in a Cratejoy box. Love what I got - book, bookmark, coffee, candle, soap, bath salts and candy. I ordered the introvert box even though I‘m not really an introvert.

I'm starting my #springcleaningreadathon in Monterey not reading but tomorrow it's on!

I went to one of my favorite places to buy books today... Savers on Almaden Expressway. My obsession with pretty covers continues. I also picked up Bay Area history books for my husband and some classics (or soon to be classics) for my new reader. Maybe Tom Sawyer will tickle his fancy as much as Baby Mouse. You never know!
Buddy read from the TOB with @TNbooklover66 .. I'll just quote the npr review. "The best thing about Monterey Bay, perhaps, is that it sent me back to Steinbeck's magnificent Cannery Row." And I have Steinbeck on its way.
I feel like the 1940s sections are pretty straight forward but the 1990s are pretty confusing, not sure what's going on there....

Getting ready to start this one. Continuing with my #2017toblonglist #tournamentofbooks. Buddy reading this one with @ReadingEnvy
I loved Cannery Row and the characters Steinbeck revealed in his book about Monterey. So I naturally I wanted to love this more modern day tale incorporating some of those same characters. I did enjoy the author's literary narrative and style. But I couldn't identify with the motivations of the 15 year-old girl who falls in love with Doc Ricketts and sabotages her father's work to build an aquarium.
Man, there are some synopsis that make you leap out of your chair because you just need to read that book. This was one for me- Monterey Bay, young girl, John Steinbeck!?! Sign me up!! Well, this one is not my cup of tea. It makes me feel claustrophobic and I just don't buy the characters, especially the narrator. 10% in and I don't have time to waste. ✌️ Peace out!

I blew through this and enjoyed it from start to finish! If you aren't a fan of Steinbeck, which I know some, for some strange reason, aren't....it doesn't matter - I would still recommend it.

Super stoked to start this one! Cannery Row is one of my all time favorites. In the background: getting the pups used to the pen for some beach camping next weekend.
I love the idea of seeing a visual representation of my own reading life & I love seeing how everyone else is doing, too! Didn't read nearly as much as I usually do because much adulting happened this month 🙄 #julystats
This book is absolutely beautiful. Even if you have no interest in marine life, Cannery Row, or Steinbeck, this is well worth the read. Hatton's language is gorgeous and it completely sucked me in. Part of me can't believe this is a debut - I'll be anxiously awaiting her next book!
