I thought this book was really interesting but something about it didn't fit with me. The references and overlap of the history of Shakespeare and Macbeth were fascinating but something about how they were presented detracted from the action and I found myself rereading aspects as there was almost too much detail packed in. I know that's a strange criticism but it's hard to explain any other way.
A.k.a. Haunt Me Still, the followup to The Shakespeare Secret (a.k.a. Interred With Their Bones) has more of the same glories and pitfalls as the first. The Shakespeare scholarship is still fascinating to me. The characters were better developed in this one, the mystery and adventure worse (or less present). Different enough to not feel like a copy of the first‘s plot, but more bizarre and “out there.”
I liked the history elements in the book. Some of it was fictionalised but it was really interesting overall! Good murder mystery too.
