I Like You Just Fine When You're Not Around
I Like You Just Fine When You're Not Around | Ann Garvin
16 posts | 15 read | 30 to read
"It's not enough that Ann Garvin is hilarious. Then she has to go ahead and be compassionate and wise about the hopeful car-wreck that is most of humanity..." --Michelle Wildgen, author of You're Not You and Bread and Butter Everything is falling apart in psychologist Tig Monahan's life. Her mother's dementia is wearing her out; her boyfriend takes off for Hawaii without her; and her sister inexplicably disappears, leaving her newborn behind. When a therapy session goes horribly wrong, Tig finds herself unemployed and part of the sandwich generation trying to take care of everyone and failing miserably. Just when she thinks she can redefine herself on the radio as an arbiter of fairness, she discovers a family secret that nobody saw coming. It will take everything plus a sense of humor to see her way clear to a better life, but none of that will happen if she can't let go of her past.

When you say ‘I love you‘, do you mean it like a promise, or do you mean it like, ‘I feel this right now, but things might change tomorrow ‘?

This book was delightfully cute and funny. Even though it broached some heavy subjects, Garvin handles them in such a light and breezy way that you never lose the smile this book gives you. Lots of deep wisdom and good advice without coming off preachy. Very easy reading and a pleasant break from reality.

I really enjoyed this book, although I was slightly disappointed with the ending. It's one of those endings that you just have to use your imagination, lol I was left hoping there's a second book, maybe there will be. Sounds weird to say, but the book has stiff pages, felt fancy. ****stars

It's a delight when you read something by an unfamiliar author and find yourself chuckling as you read it. Enjoyed the characters a great deal. Apparently the author and I have a similar sense of humor.

Finishing books and making mail, yay! I enjoyed this book. I feel like I could audition for the part of Tig, gosh, I do too much just like she does while missing the obvious things that need my attention right under my nose! This book put the fun back in dysfunctional...oh family, the best the worst

This is part of the dog literacy program called peanut reads. Peanut knows a lot of people that he likes just fine when they're not around

kathryncraft Can't wait to see what all Peanut likes to read! So cute. 9y
