National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Space
National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Space | Catherine D Hughes
8 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
This beautiful book is the latest addition to the National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book series. These colorful pages will introduce young children to the wonders of space, with colorful illustrations by David Aguilar and simple text that is perfect for beginning readers or for reading aloud. The book will explain basic concepts of space, beginning with what is most familiar to kids and expanding out into universe. Chapters include: Chapter 1 focuses on the Earth, moon, and sun. Chapter 2 introduces kids to the other planets in our solar system. Chapter 3 explains other objects in our solar system, such as dwarf planets, comets, and asteroid belts. Chapter 4 voyages even farther afield, touching on concepts such as the universe, the Milky Way, stars, galaxies, and black holes. The last chapter delves into space exploration: humans on the moon, spaceships, the International Space Station, etc."

“Mercury is the planet closest to the sun. It is the smallest of the eight big planets.”

I‘m fascinated by space and learning about it, and I feel like a lot of kids, especially girls, shy away from that topic because they think it‘s too hard or not girly, so I would encourage kids to read this.

I think it‘s really important to be able to hand kids books about complex topics and have them discover things themselves. This book allows it to be understood at a child‘s level but also has big ideas in it.

Really sorry but I can't remember who recommended the space books to me now! Please put your hand up so I can thank you!! We started the toddler off with the tagged one and he loves it! Big pictures, and simple explanations. Brilliant. Really keeping him interested. We made this Rocket yesterday! 😄

MicheleinPhilly I want that shirt! Or a sign to hang on my office door. Absolutely adorable! 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Hope he feels better. Cute picture ❤️❤️❤️ 6y
TNbookworm He is just the cutest💕 6y
theokiereader He is so cute! I also love the #boysreadtoo hashtag. I have a 1st grade boy, and I‘m constantly frustrated by the lack of easy readers and early chapter books that would appeal to boys! My son doesn‘t like reading books about characters on TV (no idea why), so that severely limits his options. It was easy with my daughter at that age! 6y
Chelleo @marywag08 Sorry to hear this! I‘m not a children‘s librarian but did find this reading list that may have a few possible titles: http://www.ala.org/alsc/sites/ala.org.alsc/files/content/compubs/booklists/great... (edited) 6y
Maria514626 So cute! I‘d like a shirt just like his. 😁 6y

I've read this NF book with my son so many times that it's falling apart! This book is packed with facts but they are written simply enough for students of all ages to understand. Fantastic pictures are included on each page and the way the book is organized, you could easily choose specific sections to focus on. NG also has lots of online activities to explore space further: http://kids.nationalgeographic.com #UCFLAE3414SU17

DrSpalding You can't do much better than National Geographic for NF. Some books now come with QR codes to take readers directly to the digital content on their site! 7y
StephanieP Great way to keep your son engaged and learn about real facts! 7y
