3⭐️ I really wanted to love this story but I couldn‘t find the right chemistry (maybe it‘s not the right time for me?). The book was written in 2003, so it was timely for a story about cyber crime, pop culture, immigration, and globalization - all are still relevant today 👍🏻

First book completed for #24in48 #24in48readathon I‘m taking a longer break now; the husband is watching anime and it looks interesting

I'm not a huge fan of what I tend to call the pretentious lit fic tone (which definitely shows my bias lol - there is probably a proper lit crit term, if so, please tell me) as I find it usually too nihilistic. This book crosses too far on that line for it to be a pick for me. Some interesting ideas, characters, and writing, but to me, lacking connection/cohesion. A perfectly fine book, just not my thing. This is everything I have left to read for #litsyatoz (both tracks). I think I can do it! Ten books left. Two are ebooks, Nevertheless She Persisted, ed. Mindy Klasky, and Shenzheners by Xue Yiwei. I'm over halfway through Transmission already.

While this novel didn't include the fast-paced action of other novels dealing with cyber crime, it was interesting to learn the motivations of the characters who perpetrate the hacking and virus release.
