The Wedding Bees
The Wedding Bees: A Novel of Honey, Love, and Manners | Sarah-Kate Lynch
12 posts | 6 read | 2 reading | 11 to read
Sugar Wallace did not believe in love at first sight, but her bees did. . . . Every spring Sugar Wallace coaxes her sleepy honeybee queenpresently the sixth in a long line of Queen Elizabethsout of the hive and lets her crawl around a treasured old map. Wherever the queen stops is their next destination, and this year it's New York City. Sugar sets up her honeybees on the balcony of an East Village walk-up and thenas she's done everywhere since leaving South Carolinashe gets to know her neighbors. She is, after all, a former debutante who believes that manners make the world a better place even if they seem currently lacking in the big city. Plus, she has a knack for helping people. There's Ruby with her scrapbook of wedding announcements; single mom Lola; reclusive chef Nate; and George, a courtly ex-doorman. They may not know what to make of her bees and her politeness, but they can't deny the magic in her honey. And then there's Theo, a delightfully kind Scotsman who crosses Sugar's path as soon as she gets into town and is quickly besotted. But love is not on the menu for Sugar. She likes the strong independent woman she's become since leaving the South and there's nothing a charmer like Theo can do to change her mind . . . only her bees can do that. The Wedding Bees is a novel about finding sweetness where you least expect it and learning to love your way home.

Went to 🐝 books for #hive quotes & liked the description:

“In the meantime, the hive, painted in rainbow stripes by a neighbor‘s six-year-old twins in some long-ago backyard, was sitting in the middle of the terrace with two gardenias acting as scented sentry guards on either side. Sugar lugged the gardenias with her wherever she went to help guide the bees back to their new home while they were getting used to their surroundings.”

Pickpick

I liked much of this: the neighborhood, building, flowers, bees, meals, secondary characters. But I never warmed up to the MC- perhaps because, like Jane Austen, pictures of perfection make me sick & wicked- so I'm having a hard time deciding how I feel about this book. I'm giving it a pick because I loved the descriptions and the story in general.
This is my #BookSpin for May. Now to pick away at the rest of the list! @thearomaofbooks

TheAromaofBooks It seems like it has all the right ingredients - it's a shame that the MC wasn't very likable! 4y

Here's my #BookSpinBonanza official list! I'm excited to start the tagged book tonight or tomorrow. I might have to make one change though: my library hold of The Operator came in this morning so I probably won't be able to wait until #16 to read it, which is making me feel guilty as I'm usually a rule follower. I'll try to get to it this week and just move everything below it down one spot.

TheAromaofBooks We all know that I'm terrible at being strict with rules haha If you want, you can also just swap it with an earlier number if that is simpler to do!! 4y

“He thought suddenly of watermelon. It was hard to come by back in Scotland but even before he'd ever tasted one in the flesh it had reminded him of summer. He knew what watermelon tasted like now; it was one of his favorite things. He could almost feel it in his mouth as he stood there, that cold sweet powerful explosion of almost nothing.”

Bostonmomx2 @SilversReviews I would say it's okay. 3 stars maybe. Cute but nothing life changing and kinda quirky. 7y

When the book you're reading that takes place in Manhattan suddenly and unexpectedly mentions your #hometown #truckee 😍😍

Suet624 Ahhh! Truckee!! 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Suet624 you know it? When I first moved there NOBODY knew where Truckee was. Now... 😕 it's a totally different place. Still home tho. 7y
Suet624 My twin sons lived in Tahoe for a few years and I visited them often. We spent some time in Truckee. It's just lovely up in that area. 7y

Went to B&N today to do a little book exchange shopping and these just insisted I bring them home. 2 for $8. Who could say no. But let me tell you, I'm so completely irritated that they use these stickers that are impossible to get completely off. What's wrong with them 😡😡

DebinHawaii The stickers suck! 😤 But The Wedding Bees is a fun book! 👍📚🐝 7y
laurieluna I have Love, Rosie, but from when it was called Where Rainbows End. Love the way the book is written. 7y
Lola Ugh, I was having a sticker issue tonight, too. I'm going to try the blow dryer trick tomorrow. 7y
