August 2025 Book #5

Danielle inherited a house and when she visited, she realized that a ghost lives in her house. This ghost asks Danielle‘s help to find out how he died. It is a simple story that reminded me The Ghost and Mrs Muir and the tv show Ghost Whisperer. Since I liked those two stories maybe that‘s why I enjoyed this book, a soft pick that I needed. Let‘s see what happens in book 2. 3⭐️

June 2025 Book #5 last book read this month, not much reading ☹️

I think I read this book out of order 🙄so that‘s why at the beginning I was confused with the original story because this novel is about one of the characters in the first novel. I still liked the twist in this novel. It was a sad twist. Not much to say because is part of a series. I will continue with the series 3.5/3.7⭐️

May 2025 Book #1

I really wanted to like this book but it was a little disappointed to me. It has mixed reviews, people love it or not. Well, I‘m one of those who didn‘t like it much. That beginning was just unrealistic and then even when it has creepy scenes, it didn‘t make any sense unless you “imagine” what you want to happen. For me was more like a mental health situation. No, it wasn‘t for me 2.5/3⭐️

May 2026 Book #6 (last one read this month, see I didn‘t read much this year)

My intention to read this book was to understand better James by Percival Everett who was the author on May. But it didn‘t happen, I haven‘t read James yet. Wow, this is a controversial story due to its racist content. You can read in GR a lot of comments in favor or con. So interesting in that way. But I try to read these type of books within the time frame ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)…it was written since it will reflect part of the history or author perspective. It is also considered a satirical story which it could be expected some uncomfortable expressions. The story has parts that you can laugh but others definitely can be so offensive this time. For what I read in GR reviews I think it could be a story to analyze and compare that time and current time analyze many concepts and how racism is in this novel⬇️ 2d
Gissy (Cont.) I‘m not an expert in literature but I think with this novel we can learn to not continue doing the same mistakes in our present history…I wish I could know who read and analyze these topics among those (who called themselves)“leaders” out there 🤔
3.8/4⭐️love my gorgeous edition and bookmark.

TheAromaofBooks Oooo what a fabulous edition!!! 2d
Gissy I have a couple of classics from that publisher. They published 4 books each season during a period of time, I don‘t know if they continue doing it. The colors were that blue, green mint, brown and white (I don‘t own…yet..the white one). Each book comes with the bookmark in that design. 😍 2d

#Top25of25
It was another year of, honestly, very dark books. But that is what I like, so not shocking. And there is some variety: Medium dark (Lucy, The Safekeep), funny dark (Hell of a Book, The Devil's Larder) and dark dark (When We Cease to Understand the World, The Bluest Eye). One not dark: '60 Songs That Explain the 90s'. Full list in the comments: *audio, **re-read, non-fiction (nf), story collection (sc), poetry (p); the rest are novels

#ToB26 #16

Two men have become friends at college. Turning 50, they still are. And so are their wives and daughters. During a weekend that the two families spend together something happens that changes everything. All of them have to decide what‘s true and what isn‘t and how to go on from here.

An interesting premise but the author needs way too many words to tell the story. That makes it
an okayish read but not a ToB-worthy one.

ChaoticMissAdventures That is a bummer, this was one of the ones that the synopsis sounded super interesting. 1mo
squirrelbrain Great review! I got this as an ARC, aaages ago but just never got round to reading it. Have you seen the terrible s ore it gets on GR? 1mo
Bookwormjillk Ok you convinced me to put this on my not unless it makes the short list pile 1mo

Hooked_on_books @ChaoticMissAdventures If you plan to read this one, you may want to look at some of the GR reviews that detail what the “something” is that happens. It‘s because of that that I won‘t read this book. 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Hooked_on_books oh thank you. I love Storygraph for this. I am with you. Thank you Barbara for taking one for the team. 1mo
Chelsea.Poole I have this on audio but maybe I won‘t prioritize it now. Thanks! 1mo
BarbaraBB @ChaoticMissAdventures @squirrelbrain @Bookwormjillk @Hooked_on_books @Chelsea.Poole I am not on GR anymore. Storygraph has an average of three stars with which I agree. The something that happens is terrible but not as exploited as you might think. It‘s the shifting dynamics afterwards that that make the book dark and interesting. It‘s not bad, really, it might even be worth reading. It is just not good enough to be a TOB book. 1mo
sarahbarnes Glad to know your thoughts on this one. I‘ll probably skip it for now. 4w

Book #16 of 2025: “Spider Woman‘s Granddaughters”, edited by Paula Gunn Allen

I loved this book. Even the preface—especially the preface. I picked it up at a record store, of all places. A beautifully put together collection of stories by and about Indigenous women across North America. Do recommend.

#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

I went to write my review of book 17 for #BobWhiteBuddies & realized I never reviewed #16 last month. Book 16 is a favorite of mine, I liked the mystery (even though it was pretty easy to solve) & how everyone got involved with determining poor “Janey‘s” identity. And any time we get to visit with Mrs. Vanderpoel, I‘m happy & want her to make me cookies.🍪This book marks the end of my hardback Trixie books so a bit sad.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! And I really wish Mrs. Vanderpoel was my neighbor 😂 3mo
