pickThe year is 1985. The place is Oxford University. Shortly after the novel opens there is a mysterious murder among the student body ‘champagne set‘. The story follows our likable, fish out of water, MC in her first weeks of school as she makes new friends, lands a job, navigates a world of fancy parties and would-be suitors, worries about homework and mostly attempts to find out who done it. I thought this was a really fun, escapist mystery.

pickWhen I first started this book, I can admit I wasn‘t into it. But being a hot summer and stuck in the pool ( I know, poor me)... I ended up falling in love with this story! The whodunit mystery really took you on some twists and turns, and I was happy to be along for the ride all summer long.

so-soI loved Ursula and the million and one costume changes she and Nancy went through in the course of the story as well as the Oxford setting (ever since reading the Lord Peter Wimsey books I've been fascinated by Oxford). Also enjoyed all the 80s references. But the humor very often ventured into absurdity which slowly became tedious. It was mostly enjoyable but I was also glad when it was over.
Page 1 and I'm already finding this narrator highly relatable. 😀
I'm loving this book, and I don't know why I waited so long to read it! The only part I would ditch is the continual descriptions of 80s hair and clothing- you wouldn't do that in a contemporary mystery, so why now? #mystery #cozy #Anglophile

so-soA cozy type mystery set in the ‘80s. I liked it enough to press on but the elaborate descriptions of the clothing was a tad annoying.
so-soSet in the over-the-top 80s at Oxford, this murder mystery was a throwback to a fashion era that never should have been. (I can say that since I graduated high school in 1988.) Mixing pop culture throwbacks with a peek into the life of Oxford's rich and spoiled, the country bumpkin heroine has to solve the mystery to earn her spot on the college paper staff. I didn't like the 80s when I was living in them and still not when reading about them.
Food coma has started, trying to stay conscious long enough to read another chapter. Niece and nephew wrestling in the background.
Found this during our move, nobody is claiming it. Reading it this weekend to see if it is appropriate for my 14 year old niece. Otherwise it will probably go to Goodwill.

pick😎🍦🍹 4th of JUly beach read alert!!!! As a massive Oxbridge-phile (I mean, I learned a *lot* from the cynical old communists at my undergrad, but we had neither sherry nor ghosts, and were absolutely the poorer for it, what is a life of the mind without unlimited sherry?!?), PGDIP satisfied in a big way. And as a lover of all things ridiculous, it's set in the 80s, perhaps the most ridiculous of decades. Fun and compulsively readable.
In my favorite place in the damn world with no agenda and a pile of books and favorite folks surrounding me. Happy birthday, America.
