"It was her duty and destiny to be dull, to be as useful and undemonstrative as a postage stamp." Never heard Her Majesty described quite that way before ? #Royallygoodreads #royalbiography

GingerAntics Her Majesty is actually Queen Elizabeth II, being a style for the monarch. Princess Margaret would have been HRH (in this case her royal highness, but it can also be his royal highness). 5y
anhistorianabouttown @GingerAntics I know that 🙂 The author was explaining the differences in personality between the more steadfast HM and volatile HRH! 5y
GingerAntics Oh okay. I didn‘t understand that was actually a quote about her sister. Margret was definitely the more lively sister when they were younger. 5y
anhistorianabouttown I would say that is true for their entire lives haha! They both fulfilled very different purposes but I think it suited them each 😀 5y

This was such a fantastic book about Mart Stuart- is it a full length biography? Nope, but it covers all of those lingering questions that people always have about the Queen of Scots, and has a FANTASTIC reading list! #maryqueenofscots #historian #history

This is a fairly easy read, though it seems to move through Conseulo's life at a very even pace- there were no highs or lows according to this. I might recommend To Marry An English Lord instead if you are interested in the phenomenon of American heiresses marrying English lords #history #biography

I'm loving this book, and I don't know why I waited so long to read it! The only part I would ditch is the continual descriptions of 80s hair and clothing- you wouldn't do that in a contemporary mystery, so why now? #mystery #cozy #Anglophile

Donna_sBookMinute I'm still deciding. I'll join only if I can find titles that aren't available on Audible. How do you like it? I saw an ad about Rakuten Kobo. Is that the one? 6y
anhistorianabouttown @Donna_sBookMinute It is the one! Audible was not available in Canada for quite some time, and when it first arrived it was incredibly expensive. The Kobo selection is growing quickly, and I've been able to find every book I'm looking for!! 6y

This was an interesting look into Jane's effect in her family in our present, and while it did meander away from Jane at a few points it always came back.

My only gripe is that the author continually looked at everything with a modern lens- duh entails seem stupid in the 21st century! Still, well worth a read or listen if you are interested in the world of Jane! #janeausten #nonfiction #bio

Bailedbailed

This was awful, I'm sad to say. Ashley, the protagonist, was stubborn and childish to ridiculous proportions, all for no apparent reason. And then she flip flopped at the last minute to make the ending.
Setting also plays a big role for me- I love English chick lit mostly for the setting. Remove a few references to the Underground and this could be in any non-descript city.
AVOID THIS!
