Bringing Adam Home
Bringing Adam Home: The Abduction That Changed America | Les Standiford, Joe Matthews
Les Standifords account of the decades-long attempt to solve the murder of Adam Walsh is chilling, heartbreaking, hopeful, and as relentlessly suspenseful as anything Ive ever read. A triumph in every way. Dennis Lehane, author of Mystic River The most significant missing child case since the Lindberghs.A taut, compelling and often touching book about a long march to justice. Scott Turow, author of Presumed Innocent The abduction that changed America forever, the 1981 kidnapping and murder of six-year-old Adam Walshson of John Walsh, host of the Fox TV series Americas Most Wantedin Hollywood, Florida, was a crime that went unsolved for a quarter of a century. Bringing Adam Home by author Les Standiford is a harrowing account of the terrible crime and its dramatic consequences, the emotional story of a father and mothers efforts to seek justice and resolve the loss of their child, and a compelling portrait of Miami Beach Homicide Detective Joe Matthews, whose unwavering dedication brought the Adam Walsh case to its resolution.

Many things have been happening. Deep in a second wave where I live, a lot of stress, I turned 40 this week, am still having a terrible time focusing on reading. But I‘m trying. Definitely still taking library books out like I‘m reading normally 😂

Hope you all are okay, going to try to get back to posting more regularly. Missing this content and need it to replace dumpster fire news!

CoverToCoverGirl Just checking in. How are things? We are in an orange level lockdown here (2 weeks) our cases are starting to drop. My reading focus comes and goes too. 3y
Reagan @CoverToCoverGirl thanks! I wish we were locked down. Unfortunately we have a lot of anti mask and anti lockdown protests here. Cases keep going up 😥 3y
Reagan @CoverToCoverGirl glad to hear you are starting to see cases go down. Hopefully the 2 week lockdown shows a good result! 3y
CoverToCoverGirl We went back into the yellow zone yesterday.. masks are mandatory here inside all public spaces but we did have an anti masker protest yesterday too! It‘s cray-cray.. so much misinformation out there. Our cases are down .. we only had 2 today... but they are going up steadily all around us..we have a tremendously high compliance rate within our community and I‘m so thankful for it. Be safe, I hope your case numbers come down. Hugs! 3y

Mehso-so

July 27, 1981 in #Hollywood FL, Revé Walsh took her 6 yr old son Adam to Sears with her to look at home furnishings. What happened during that trip would change the way child abductions were handled across the country. This book briefly delved into the back story of how the case was investigated, & ultimately ended with the killer's confession. I was surprised by the brevity & lack of info given. 3🌟#OctoberPutASpellOnYou @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

John Walsh is one of the most well known crime victims out there. His six year old son Adam was kidnapped from a Sears in 1981. His head was found days later, but his killer wasn‘t found until decades later this book lays out how bungled police work and compromised individuals can derail a pretty straight forward case. This was well researched and written. My only complaint is the multiple confessions from the perp made it repetitive. #pop18

L_auren This is one the cases that still gets to me 😭 did they discuss theories about the head not being his? I‘ve heard some conspiracy-type whispers but haven‘t investigated (edited) 6y
Reviewsbylola No, I hadn‘t heard there was any conflicting reports of that. It did mention that at first they did not think it was adam‘s head, but that they quickly confirmed that it was through dental records. It just horrifying. The killer stated that he wanted to keep Adam as his on but killed him when Adam started crying for his mommy. 😢 @L_auren 6y

BarbaraBB So sad!! You read this for the true crime prompt? 6y
Reviewsbylola Yes I counted it for the true crime prompt. That was one that I knew I‘d have no trouble completing so I didn‘t pick a title ahead of time. @BarbaraBB 6y
SaraBeagle I saw John Walsh tell this story once at a conference. It was both difficult and interesting. Amazing what he was eventually able to turn this tragedy into. 6y
Cinfhen I can‘t read these type of stories... breaks my heart 💔 6y

One of my favorite #truecrime books is on sale!

Most people have heard of John Walsh (America's Most Wanted) and what happened when his child (Adam) was kidnapped. For years there was no word on who did it and no body to bury. This investigative novel dives deep into this crime and finally comes up with some definitive answers. Heartbreaking, infuriating, and tragic, this is a true crime book full of emotions.
