1. I‘m SO guilty of this. Library books & book club books end up taking priority since they have a deadline, and books I already own end up at the back of the line/bottom of the pile.
2. Tagged: it was optional reading for my study abroad semester in Florence, Italy. In 1996. It‘s traveled to & from Italy twice—once for the study abroad semester, once for a reunion trip when I planned to read it on the plane. Nope. Still on the TBR.😆

I‘ve been listening to a few books about medieval history while reading Pillars of the Earth since the world feels so rich.

This one was pretty entertaining, although the author seemed pretty scornful of the time period! The descriptions of noteworthy people were interesting though. I thought he was weirdly focused on Magellan until the afterward noted that the book itself began as an intro for a biography on him. Oh.

This is a good overview of the medieval era that was made even better by reissuing it in a heavily (and beautifully done) illustrated edition. It's a joy to page through. #BookWithPictures #SeasonsReadings2016

It does not usually happen that I abandon an audio book after a chapter and a half but the childish simplification of several centuries to "they were a bunch of savages and aren't we sooooo much superior to those animals just grated on me. The author is a pretty good writer but a terrible historian
