In this moving memoir, Kym shares her experience of feeling silenced and bereft after her beloved Stradivarius, her soulmate violin, was stolen. A heartbreaking loss that resulted in a rebirth of sorts. She eventually finds herself, learns to listen to her own voice and stops bowing to others. Definitely recommend listening to Gone: The Album while reading.

🦋 I‘m not very far into the tagged book yet, but seems like it has the potential to be ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
🦋 🦋 I‘ve had twelve 5 ⭐️ reads this year so far. All “the best” for different reasons. Fight Night by Miriam Toews was one of them. So funny and feisty.

Decent read. Received this for Christmas as a gift, not necessarily something I'd choose on my own. Writing could have been better, the story & timelines were a little disjointed & all over the place. I don't know much about music so a lot of stuff went over my head. A short book at 200 or so pages, but took 3 days to read, maybe because I wasn't that into it.

I‘m completely captivated by this audiobook 🎶 🎻
It has a great narrator and music in the background at times

"It's your own heart you should be playing by, not your memory, your own heart playing the poetry that lies within the music."

This is my pick for the #booked2018 challenge, #POCauthor prompt. A memoir from a child prodigy who loses the beloved instrument that defines her life and career. So far it's quite a lovely book, interesting too.

Taking a break from graphic novels to read more of this memoir I set aside some time back. As someone who not only loves memoirs but whose piano training was primarily in classical music, this is right up my alley. More on this when I finish it, but @balletbookworm wrote a fantastic review of it last year! #LitsyPartyofOne

My one and only arc! The final has been out for awhile now, but I'm still very excited to read this.

Some sections of this memoir were fascinating. Specifically the parts where she detailed the pressures she felt as a child prodigy. Anytime she discussed her relationship with her family was some of her best writing. But for the most part, she just kind of lumped information into each chapter, not following a chronological order or focusing on a specific theme for each chapter.

This was interesting but super dry. For me at least it lacked a certain verve that memoirs usually have.

I struggled to get through parts of Kym's tale - I have no knowledge of or particular interest in classical music - but I ended up emotionally enthralled with Gone. I loved the glimpse into her family's start in Korea and the struggle with their immigration to the U.K. And I totally ended up crying over a violin.

I didn't know anything about Min Kym before picking up Gone but am really enjoying the glimpses of her family's life in Korea.

A really interesting memoir about musical talent and identity. Kym is a violinist who is one of the prodigies, who conquers the the toughest pieces in the violin literature at an impossibly young age, and whose Stradivarius violin was stolen at the height of her career. Her memoir looks at not just her career, but the toll it took on her, how much it pushed against her Korean upbringing, and how she succumbed to a bad relationship.

balletbookworm The writing style is very interesting. It isn't very polished but winds around, almost stream of consciousness at times. She really tries to get at the heart of performing at such a high level so young and the period of mourning she went through after her violin was stolen. 8y

I didn't get to have a #LitsyPartyofOne because my son is having his best friend over for a belated birthday sleepover. But I read a little between all of the snack baking and requests for help with the fort or the TV. This book has really grabbed my attention! #netgalley

I play a little music bit I've never been a serious musician. Min helped me to understand how integral music was to her life, and how it gave her a voice she didn't otherwise have. She also somewhat more implicitly discusses issues of being a woman and more specifically a Korean woman and how that affected decisions she made (or were made for her). #firsttoread

Very interesting memoir about a former violin child prodigy who is coming into her own as an adult soloist--and then her violin is stolen. Her writing this is part of her own process to understand herself and heal from the upheaval created by the theft and her struggle afterward. A little jumpy, it really could have used shorter chapters to help with the organization.

**This book was reviewed via Netgalley**

Kym's Gone is a story of love, loss, and rebirth. It is the story of a young violin prodigy, of the finding, and losing of one‘s other half, and of recovery from traumatic loss. This memoir drew me in, entrancing, enthralling. It is a beautifully poetic story.

🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻 Highly recommended, especially for those who love the violin (and other music lovers)

This book is soooo good. I'm enthralled, entranced. I feel more connected to my own violin (and cello).
