I liked this but I didn't love it. The issue I have with a lot of comics is that I just want more. I like reading more than pictures. I did like the story and the mystery and will probably continue with it but it just wasn't as amazing as I was hoping.

Obviously this wasn't an enjoyable read, but I certainly learned from it. I didn't always like the author's tone but she definitively wants to bring awareness to an important issue.

I finished this in one day. I thought it was going to just be a cult story but it turned out to be so much more.

It's hard both to review and describe this one. It's a long twisty tale that folds in on itself. If that sounds interesting then you might like this, but I can also see people really disliking or just losing patience with it.

Breakfast at Tiffany's | Truman Capote

Pickpick

I just read this for the second time for a book club, so I was paying a lot more attention to themes and subtleties. Not everyone picked up on everything capote was saying, which I'm not sure it's because he had to do it so carefully in the time he was writing or just because they weren't being careful readers. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

I play a little music bit I've never been a serious musician. Min helped me to understand how integral music was to her life, and how it gave her a voice she didn't otherwise have. She also somewhat more implicitly discusses issues of being a woman and more specifically a Korean woman and how that affected decisions she made (or were made for her). #firsttoread

This was on my nook and I chose to read it because it fulfilled several of the #readharder requirements. It really transported me to a different time and place (1890s Malaysia) and the author included a great note about the culture of that time, as well as where she took some liberties. It's outside of my usual zone, which is the point of read harder, and I really ended up enjoying it.

Dragon I have this on my tbr. I bought it for the beautiful cover. 😀 7y

I don't know if I can fit all of my thoughts here and I'm not going to address the circumstances of it's publication, but the bottom line is I liked it. There were times when, especially given recent events, I could really relate to what Jean Louise was feeling. A friend told me she had seen a huge generational gap between people who liked and didn't like this book and I have found that to be the case as well. Check GR for more.

If you're interested in 1960s-70s New York art and music, I'd definitely recommend this oral history. In some ways, I'd rather just read a book written from the perspective of an unbiased researcher, but it was also great to read the way that people really remembered and felt about things that were happening at the time. #mounttbr

I listened to the audio narrated by Scott brick and it was long but I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd ever read anything in the "true crime" genre before but I'm definitely interested in reading more, as well as reading more about the Manson Family.

Sweettartlaura I listened to this too - regardless of the length it was mesmerizing. I learned a lot, too. 7y
ninjypants I read this book as a kid--maybe 13 or 14? It scared the crap outta me but I have loved true crime ever since! 7y

I really loved escape from Mr limoncello's library, but this one just didn't have the same fun to it. I wanted a quick, light read and it served that purpose but I didn't think the characterization was really consistent and the ending was just too clean. #bookaboutbooks #readharder

This is tough to review as it's unlike anything I've read before. It sort of imagines an America where Elvis's twin was born instead of him, and it also explores American culture and music and how we've been shaped by 9/11. There are so many references to so many 20th century events and people and works which as a pop culture junkie I loved. The writing style took some getting used to, though. #firsttoread

Everyone loves Dostoevsky but I just can't. It didn't help that I got halfway through the book not understanding the naming conventions and thinking that 2 people were like 5 different characters. I'm ok with Tolstoy or bulgakov but this guy's just not for me I guess. #dnf #readjanuary

I wavered between pick and so-so but I actually really liked the ending so I bumped it up. This was so much more disturbing than the troop, even though there wasn't as much gore. It explored more human evil and that was the part that made it really scary. #litsyreadingchallenge

There's different mountains you can tackle for how many books you aim to read. I love the premise of jumping into books. The execution wasn't perfect; there were some YA tropes that are pretty overdone. That could be because it's in translation; there were some other things that reflected German culture more so it could be that clumsy special heroine has a different vibe over there. #netgalley #translation
