The Queen Mother
The Queen Mother: The Untold Story of Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, Who Became Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother | Lady Colin Campbell
3 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
Packed with stunning revelations, this is the inside story of The Queen Mother from the New York Times bestselling author who first revealed the truth about Princess Diana Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother has been called the "most successful queen since Cleopatra." Her personality was so captivating that even her arch-enemy Wallis Simpson wrote about "her legendary charm." Portrayed as a selfless partner to the King in the Oscar-winning movie The King's Speech, The Queen Mother is most often remembered from her later years as the smiling granny with the pastel hats. When she died in 2002, just short of her 102nd birthday, she was praised for a long life well lived. But there was another side to her story. For the first time, Lady Colin Campbell shows us that the untold life of the Queen Mother is far more fascinating and moving than the official version that has been peddled ever since she became royal in 1923. With unparalleled sources--including members of the Royal Family, aristocrats, and friends and relatives of Elizabeth herselfthis mesmerizing account takes us inside the real and sometimes astonishing world of the royal family.

Lady Colin Campbell dishes on her take of the Queen Mother. I felt it was not an overall favorable look at her, and if parts of this are really true, I can see why. The Queen Mother had her own thoughts and ideas and helped to mold Queen Elizabeth into the Queen she became. I see I gave this a 3.5 Star rating on LibraryThing - a good read for those who like royal histories. #DoesYourMotherKnow #ABBAinAugust

I loved the Queen Mum so much. I hated her portrayal in the otherwise accurate series The Crown. She was a fag hag, surrounded herself with gay men all her life, especially her staff. The story goes that one day in her 80s she rang the buzzer for her staff to attend her, nobody answered, she rang again, and when finally they answered the intercom, she said, "I don't know about you old queens, but this old queen needs a gin and tonic!" #royals

Hobbinol Awesome!❤ 8y
shawnmooney @libby1 @LeahBergen @hobbinol The story may be apochryphal but has the ring of truth to it. I was displeased that none of her grandmotherly whimsy got portrayed in The Crown. (edited) 8y
Dragon The Queen Mom was such a character! 👑 8y
